Cry of Fear

Cell Phone Light
I realize that there are probably a great many threads on this topic to begin with, butttttttt I don't want to have to scroll to them to actually find the solution to my problem.
Anyway, basically, I just installed the game from here on Steam, and it runs at a great 80fps, but my phone's flashlight does not work. O.O
Not to mention when I dual wield my knife and phone, I have 3 hands.
Is there any fix to at least the light? I can live as a mutant (I play Fallout 3 all the time anyway), but there is a room that is so dark I actually NEED the light!

have you tried to completely re-install CoF? just delete everything (including your saves/game profile - back them up somehwere else, maybe they'll work just fine, once you've sorted out your issue), redownload and try again.

still not fixed?

remove your GPU's driver completely (by using "Display Driver Uninstaller", downloadable at guru3d.com) and install the latest one.
if that doesn't help, then you might wanna try a different, older driver version.

would any of that change on a windows 8?

Yeah, I didn't have any luck with this...
I guess a lot of people have had this same issue.

unless it's one of those typical "some PC's just react to some games that way for some reason"-problems, you can try 3 other things:

1: mess about with the in-game graphic options and your driver settings (for CoF only).
2: try the 64bit launcher, in case you're running a 64bit OS (downloadable at CoF's moddb/indiedb page).
3: run the game after a clean boot via msconfig (disable every background program and-non windows related services as well as leave services enabled, which are required to play the game, like graphic-card drivers, etc).

For other users that dont have windows 8 or that "troubleshoot compatibility option. Go into properties, then compatibility and "run this program in compatibility for : windows XP service pack 2 (or any other pack, but has to be XP) The issue arrises because the game was made for XP and its trying to run the game on newer systems. Its weird, I know, hope this helps.

No worries. Glad it worked.

ok it worked for that but I'm still having problems with files loading properly. for example Ill enter a new area and itll shut down the game and send a file load error message. verifying game cahce integrity does work but it only fixes one load error at a time.

I'm not familiar with this issue; however, you can enter the error (exactly the way it is) into google. Chances are that you are'nt the only one having that issue. Also you could try running the game as administrator and see if this fixes the problem.
I-am-iron-ham Jun 15, 2014 @ 12:24pm
alright now how do you run it as administrator? im not too terribly tech savvy
I-am-iron-ham Jun 15, 2014 @ 3:13pm
yeah that doesnt fix it either, this game is just very glitchy
