How do you dual wield a flare and a gun?

What the title says. I'm in the sewer tunnels right now and it's really bothering me how when I try to dual wield, Simon throws the flare first and wastes it THEN pulls the gun out. It's really frustrating. Someone pls let me know how I can do it

Holding a flare is a bit clunky in this game for sure. You'll want to dual wield your weapon of choice with the flare, but only light it after you've started dual wielding (right click or left depending on the hand its in), then you'll need to drop it when you need to reload or climb a ladder.
