Why was this made on Goldsrc and not Source?
Not saying this is a bad thing, just curious considering that Source is essentially just an updated Goldsrc, and it seemed odd to use the older engine almost a decade after the newer one came out.

the mod was originally from the late 90s but was released on steam in 2013
Didn't the mod not actually come out until like 2012 though? I remember initially hearing about it and downloading it prior to the steam release, and by memory it was some sort of new thing at the time.

The fact that it is on goldsrc and not source just makes it even more impressive. They added a whole lot more quality than most people would normally expect from your average gold source game. Why they decided to go with goldsrc? Maybe they just thought it was the best option at the time and they already had previous experience with goldsrc when making Afraid of Monsters.

When Cry of Fear was made, the two lead developers chose Goldsource because they had, llike That Hipster suggested, the most experience with it and knew well how it worked and what it could do. It was also incredibly stable at the time and still is with most systems.

Hammer for the source engine was, from what I've heard, also incredibly unstable and unflexible in the same period.

I'm wondering why they wanted to use GoldSrc...

Game is fking awesome as it is + it adds to the feel of late 90s early 00s survival horror games

could be to do with something like familuarity or athstetic of the source engine. the ai behaviour could be fitting as well (stop moving to attack) fitting the whole survvivor horror runnin past

but my best guess is to do with some of the features the game needs Especially looking at the unique ladder function source 1 probably dosnt even support and not easy to add without source code

where the goldsrc is built from modifications of the quake engine allowing more flexibility with the engine

theres probably multiple reasons than just one paticular thing
