27015 via UDP might be sufficient though for CoF.
Then host the server and have your friends get the CoF Server Browser and they will be able to see and join it there, assuming the port forwarding is working correctly on your end.

(this is necessary since the ingame server browser got broken long time ago)
This is way more reliable than all the fiddling with Hamachi and such. You should only resort to VPN if the native way doesn't work for you (like when ports aren't working due to a mobile internet plan or a restrictive internet provider).
