Just like in SH, the monsters of CoF seem to be projections of nightmares. The "bed-monsters" in CoF are a reference to SH2, where Maria is appearing bound to a bed as the final boss. The screaming doll monster of CoF could be taken as a reference to the mannequins in SH.
The riddle in the park of CoF is similar to riddles typical for Silent Hill. CoF is a survival horror game, just like SH is. Both games are dealing with a confusing and disturbing background, taking the endings into account, in both games you don't really understand what's going on. The strange world in CoF close to the end is a strong reference to the Otherworld of SH. Suicide is a topic of CoF, just like in SH2; child abusement is mentioned in Cof, maybe referring to Walter Sullivan of SH2/SH4. Just like in SH2, you find letters and notes scattered around in CoF.
The music and sfx of CoF seem to carry some similarities to SH.
