game keeps crashing when i join a coop game

whenever i connect to my friends server or him to my server our screens just freeze and then the game closes, sometimes we can get in but it crashes the moment the first cutscene ends, any help on how to fix this???

If you press alot of buttons during the loading, it could crash, when it loads, the pogram is loading alot of things, so if you click or spam to much it will stop responding

most of the time the game freezes before we can even close the command console, and even when it doesn't, we usually just ready up and then it crashes after the first cutscene ends

I know its been a year but uh, type "gl_renderer 0" into the console. This will allow you to enter but will make it so that you cant use the flashlight. The best fix I've found is to then change the brightness via console. I usually do "brightness 9999999" and "brightvalue 9999999". It makes the game really ugly, and some sections like the sewer house are still pitch black, but its the only fix I've found that works.

i did the brighness thing but i cant figure out how to change it back to normal
