Co-op and Reliable channel overflow.
Almost every time we transition to another level in co-op my friends get disconnected with a reliable channel overflow message. Here's what displays in the console after they disconnect:

SZ_GetSpace: overflow on netchan->message
[Player name] overflowed
WARNING: reliable overflow for [Player name]
Netchan_Clear() : reliable length not 0, reliable_sequence: 467, incoming_reliable_acknowledged: 1
[Player name] overflowed

Also, Too many entities in visible packet list will be spammed in the console sometimes.

We have already tried copy and pasting the code below, and the error keeps happening.
cl_updaterate 101;wait;cl_cmdrate 101;wait;rate 25000;wait;fps_max 101;wait;ex_interp 0.1

On the first co-op campaign, starting with cof_campaign_01, he is able to reconnect, but the manhunt campaign is constant Steam validation rejected errors with him being unable to rejoin after we use the exit door on the first level.

The error code is "Reliable channel overflow -," rarely, there's an e after the - and I'm guessing that's a problem with the entities.

I've seen answers on other forums ranging from: It's a steam-related bug, there are too many cvars, your network is bad, missing wav files cause it, there's too much information sent at one time through the network packets that causes a dc/server is sending too many messages to clients causing the overflow, and to allow half-life launcher + cof through your firewall rules (private and public). I haven't had issues hosting servers in other games, but I'm still trying to find errors in my setup.

I've port forwarded the 27015 and 27020 ports. The connection is stable it's just when we load into the next level where people disconnect.

Is anyone else experiencing this issue? I'm doing my best to try and fix it, but I'm coming up short.

Sorry for the late reply walliez. I donated to the creator's PayPal to show support and get some more info. I'm told that this was a bug that they could not solve. I burned myself out trying to find possible fixes. I can say what I've tried below just for documentations sake:

- Older versions of the game didn't work.

- Running Cry of Fear on a separate PC and connecting on another account to my multi-player lobby resulted in the same disconnection issue on the separate PC. This would happen randomly as sometimes I'd load into certain levels fine but other times I wouldn't.

- Verifying files and ensuring everyone was running in the same compatibility mode did not work.

- Changing various client and server console variables did not work. I believe the main ones were cl_updaterate and rate (it's been a while so please forgive my lack of detail)

If I learn anything more concrete in terms of why this happens, I'll post back.

i have found that
cl_updaterate 10
worked for me :steamthumbsup:

(ALSO A SIDE NOTE) me and my friends have noticed that if the HOST stands completely still while waiting for their friend to load in server it seems to work

Input the command into the console.
Host should do it. Others should also try if still not working.

The "cl_updaterate 10" command doesn't work for me :steamsad:

I bet no one still has a reliable fix for this.

start the game and then ur friend has to join after the introduction not in the "lobby" worked for me
/ or while the introduction just not in the "lobby" where u can see the icons

I think i found a solution to this problem. Together with my friend we were trying everything we could to play together and the only thing that worked was doing something about "relayed tunnel" in hamachi. As soon as blue dot turned green we were able to play together without major issues (tip: whenever changing location let your friend/s do transitioning beacuse most of the time if i did it myself my friend couldn't load)

I should also mention that it took a while (like few minutes and we were restarting hamachi) until this blue dot became green so watch some tutorial and be patient. I'm probably gonna test it again with my gf as i wasn't able to play with her before
