To clarify what happened with the crampons, its less of an issue with the crampons not maintaining the cling to the wall, and more of a side effect of the way pausing works in the game currently. Pausing as of right now doesnt actually freeze-time the game, the game continues to run in the background behind the pause menu, leading to things like getting hit by falling boulders while paused (something i saw you post about too, something that happened to me in the past) and things like crampons not staying in the wall when you pause. The game requires you to hold "W" the entire time you have the crampons kicked into the wall, the MOMENT you release W you will start falling. Meaning that the moment you pause while kicked into the side of a wall, you will start falling.
Again really sucks to hear that it happened what sounds like really far into the final map, but for future comfort in areas where you feel like you need to wipe your hands, or take a drink of water or something outside of the game, this is the safest thing to do:
1:Find a hold that you can hold indefinitely, regular rock holds, ice formations can be held indefinitely with both ice picks, and even crimps can be held indefinitely if you use chalk. Make sure that this hold isnt something that will be affected by BOULDERS. This is the biggest one, nothing else in the game will knock you off a hold unless the hold is timed, so finding a safe spot inside of an avalanche zone, or a spot outside the avalanche zones is best
2: When the game is paused, it automatically toggle holds whatever hold the player is currently grabbing. What this means is that you can grab a hold, pause the game, unpause if youd like doesnt really matter, and you will be automatically toggled onto the hold meaning you can leave your PC and do whatever youd like. Re-pressing down the mouse buttons will just re-initiate your control over your hands, and the default grabbing method will be whatever you have it set to by default after you take control again.
I did know that boulders fall even when paused (learned that the hard way too...) and I was aware that if you pause while holding onto a handhold the game toggles your grip and doesn't let go when you pause, but I thought (mistakenly) that logic also applied to the crampons and it didn't... I really don't know if I can find it within myself to try that again. I think I need a break from this game entirely. I can't stand to look at that ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ peak anymore right now, especially from the bottom. Thanks for your answer and condolences though. I appreciate it.
Better to be safe than sorry like me. RIP.
Take as much time as you need :)
