It seems that Steam's discussion have become a lot more hostile across the board, and that's saying something.
There's a similar beef between certain players of Stoneshard and Quasimorph, several of which who don't appear to own the games themselves, at least through Steam. Additionally, any time indie devs shout out each other or do collaborative events, there's a sudden influx of hostile responses about "selling out," or blowing their publisher, or trying to make players pick favorites when you can just like both, some, or all of the games or devs in question. If you don't like a game or dev, and don't genuinely think your input might be contributed to the developer's development feedback to maybe better the game they are working on, why do people insist on talking so hatefully about stuff they don't care about? The only time I've ever gotten angry enough to post what I disliked, it was on Caves of Qud's board and review because of their developers, and they didn't seem to appreciate me knowing about and soapboxing their dubious connections.
Off topic, but if you haven't, and intend to: Do not buy Caves of Qud. The developers aren't just snarky firebrands, they are genuinely awful people with verifiable connections to actual underage sex traffickers and I hate that I ever gave them my money.
Holstin seems like a really cool combination of some of my favorite Survival Horror games, and I honestly do not understand some of the criticism of the Tunnel demo. I can see where some players might have jumped the gun before even testing out the 6th stage, and there's some differences between the House and Tunnel demos that need to be addressed, but both systems and presentations could easily meld with each other, and combat feels like it's a very solid foundation that was already fun on it's own for me.
