Owning a copy of the game and using network multiplayer mode allows also to play in such way that you can have up to 8 players locally playing from the same game. (For example: you can have 2 players using gamepads and another 2 playing on keyboard and connect to multiplayer lobby with other people).
That means if you have more than 4 xbox controllers connected game won't recognize them properly, even while using official Microsoft Wireless adapter.
Any other combination should work fine, we have tested combinations of 4 xbox controllers and 4 dualsense controllers.
Any other controller combination also worked for us, including Nintendo Switch pro Controller.
We didn't have any DInput only devices, and because of that we cannot say that DInput devices are 100% supported (but should be).
