TERRIFYING
I have never before played a game that actually made me shake so much that even 8 minutes after the beast appeared, I find it difficult to type. ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥.

When this game gets you, boy, does it get you.

Personally, I can completely understand people saying there's not enough to do in the game and it's frustrating, even boring. It's fine. In these days of multiplayer on-line co-op etc etc, a game that makes you feel more lost and alone than maybe you've ever felt in your life isn't going to grab a lot of people. But if it does grab you, it gives you an experience unlike anything else.

Welcome to the Island. :O)

I totally agree with you, it's not a game for everyone, but for those it is for it really can hit you. It's probably one of my favorite games now. Once you figure out what all the notes are hinting at... Damn it's creepy. And I feel like they made the monster in such a spot on way that it had a nice little quality to it. But I think the lack of the stereotypical "monster see monster kill" dynamic can turn a lot of people off. The thought of the only real enemy being your own mind just doesn't grab people as much I suppose.

I am on my second run now, and having completed the game once, I feel that, somehow, I am in control, because I know I will win in the end - and I am better able to find my way around the island than when I played it through the first time. Nonetheless, even though I have a number of chemical aids to give me an edge, and I know I can probably swim my way out of trouble now that I have taken the necessary drugs, AND can usually stay hidden when HE comes by, even so, if he spots me, everything goes out the window and I just RUN in blind panic, heading for the nearest stretch of water.... this game is unique. Love it!

I played it 6 times back to back, and for the last four playthroughs, the first thing I did was spend the first two days getting the power-ups so I could swim for more than five seconds without drowning. It reduced the tension, but only slightly - once Milo turned up on a stretch of coast where there was no island to swim to, and the nearest coastline was too far away to reach even with the power-ups. All I could do was swim along the coast for a bit trying to outpace him, get to shore for a few moments' rest and then swim out again when he got too close. Felt like it went on forever but it probably only about 5 minutes. (I think I managed to get to a tent eventually.)

And then there was the time when Milo showed up, I headed out into the water and then discovered the water wasn't deep enough to swim in. Cue moans of panic-stricken terror as I floundered around trying to get out of my depth. :O)

But yeah. I love(?) the way Milo isn't your usual monster coming rushing at you and bellowing like a T. Rex on steroids. He just stalks you. Relentlessly. You're only ever prey in this game, never the predator.

how do you follow a game like this I wonder - I can't find anything to match it so far....
DukeDankins 23 JUN 2014 a las 8:33
How do you follow this? How about adding the necessity for food, and making the beast drawn by blood. Yeeeeeah Have fun with that. Also, remove the water inside safe camps. This forces you to go out more often. Give a small chance that festering ponds will give you disease when you drink from them, and add a cooking and boiling mechanic. Add more diseases and medicines, and make the beast attack you more often when you have important things.

If I could code I would be making a mod for this right now.

I played the game yesterday for the first time (besides the initial "let me try this game... uh... not tonight" ritual with games like this when I bought it) and we had a lot of fun. When we saw that creature for the first time, we actually thought it was a landmark. I remember three minutes of running in panic, because we had uncovered a lot of the map by efficiently using the landmarks and didn't have the chance to save in a long while. Running away in panic almost killed us (I still have no idea what this creature is and I will find it out by myself). Very well done, random game I found on the last winter sale!

I know what you mean about trying to find another game as good as this one but, the last game I played I was thinking the same thing. Totally different gameplay but each one interesting in its own right. I'm not even close to finishing this one. I'm on Day 30 but I sleep a lot because I don't like to be out at night :) . So I'm anticipating many more days on this one and will probably play it again because I'll know my way around much better.
pawzisme 18 JUL 2014 a las 1:11
yes, going out at night is too difficult, better to snooze the time away. The first time I played it I escaped as soon as I had the antidote. This time I will continue until I have explored absolutely every crook and cranny, because the beast will no longer be a problem.

I did one game where (i) I used DSS's cartographobia mod, so the only way to fill in the map was by triangulation - picking up maps did nothing; (ii) I set myself the challenge of covering the whole island, checking my progress with DSS's Miaschiev mod.

It was pretty challenging (in fact, it was a bit of a grind at points, especially in forests), and I got about 98-99% of the way there, but I did find a couple of new areas. One of them was a forest with beautifully coloured leaves on the ground - never seen it before or since.

ooh, gives me something to aim for then :) All I need now is the adjuvent, but just cannot recall for sure where I found it last time, so am having to search all over. Not bothered as I don't want the game to be over anyway - heck, I might get to know the beast so well he will settle down and be my pet ♥♥♥♥♥cat!

I personally don't find the beast scary at all.
I almost nevet see it, when I do I just hide, run or qwim away, and everything is fine.
I really like the game, the atmosphere and the gameplay, but I don't feel any danger from the beast at all.
pawzisme 27 JUL 2014 a las 14:28
meeting him before you can swim racks up the tension - but I agree, he ( Milo) isn't that scary in appearance or behaviour - but if you meet him where there is nowhere to hide, and you can't swim yet, that tends to promote a bolting in panic reaction, and creeping along trying to get to your next destination without the heart-beats sounding, with some hard-found plant in your hot little hand also builds the trepidation as to whether you are going to make it before he gets you or causes you to fall and lose the plant! Great fun really as there is none of the yuk and gore so often met in other games, which make survival somewhat more of a grim experience. This is a refreshingly different game in that respect - I can actually enjoy beiong 'scared' in this game.
