Game crashes.
Hey, I've just started playing the game and I get to the part where you go down the first hatch in the floor during the prelude and my game crashes. I've tried restarting the game and my computer but the game keeps crashing.

Might I have some software or hardware that is making my game crash or something?
Real shame, cause I really wanna play this game! :(

Any help is appriecated.

Thanks

Hold the forward button as soon as you open the trap door. I had the same problem.

I am on this part where I'm hidin from the fishermen. I climb up a ladder from basement with rats into this room with a pentagram behind the shelf where the game crashes when I try to move the surroundings. Any help?

Yes, I heard about the forward button and I've tried that a couple of times, and it gets me down in the tunnel but when I head down the stairs the game crashes again. Maybe just keep at it and hope it works eventually?

I also read around abit, and according to someone it helps if you change the resolution to 800x600 and Anti-aliasing to x2.
Gonna try it next time.

Same problem. Switching your resolution to the above mentioned 800x600 with anti-aliasing x2 fixes the ladder crash. Surprisingly 1600x900 with anti-aliasing x8 also works. But absolutely no combination of resolution and anti-aliasing inbetween can fix the crash. Jeez, the coders on this game were awful.

Same Issue here, tried several times with the above suggested resolutions while also holding the forward key down when entering the cellar and it still crashes the game. I'm about to give up and go play this on Xbox.

The 800*600, 2x antialiasing workaround got me past the infamous trap door crash in the prologue too, thanks for posting it!

I tried 800*600 2x antialiasing, but it didn't work. I don't see a 1600x900 option even available. Any suggestions? I played this via Steam back in 2010, and it worked okay. Not sure why I'm having so many problems now.

EDIT: I tries 1680 x 1050 at 8x anti aliasing, and that seemed to do the trick.

I am having similar problems, playing the game on Windows 7 64 bit. The game crashes continually: always when I go to the hatch in the floor, but often just wandering around. I have tried to various different resolutions, switching to a single processor, and downloading what I think must be the boxed version of the engine and patching this with the unoffical patch. Nothing seems to help.

I have played just enough of the game to have become intrigued by the atmosphere, but am now utterly frustrated. I have had about five minutes of game play over the course of about two hours.

Any help would be very much appreciated.

@James, I have fiddled with this without steam support and found that if changing the resolution, other fixes etc don't work, you can go to http://www.tahionic.com/computers/Call%20of%20Cthulhu%20-%20Dark%20Corners%20of%20the%20Earth/game%20cheats.html <<<< This is basically a modded version of DCOTE, and I found that it fixed the problem since I tried all the other fixes and they didn't work for me.

So I was at the part where you bust yo way into the grocery stores, steal the booze from the safe and then go down the trapdoor. I crashed through the wall with the ladder and went up the stairs where you have a couple doors to choose from. The one takes you outside then the other has a lady swinging from a noose in the corner. When I go into that room it zones your vision in on her and then just freezes. I can shift in and out of sneak mode but i can't do anything else but look at her and it's really annoying and somewhat creepy... Wat do?
