I played in on Windows 8.1 with resolution set on 1068x768, or something near that.
Yes the game has some glitches you have to work through. I had a lot of trouble with it trying to play it on 1400x900. You have to do a lot of work to get this game to play on a high resolution. Turn it down; it will save you a lot of headaches. Unless, of course, you are one of those that know how to hack the files.
I finished the game with 24 hours of gameplay, but it took over 16 months to complete. For me anyway. I'd drop it and then find out more information and start the fight from where I left off.
There are some parts you are going to need a walkthrough - text or video - to get to the next save point or even know what you are suppose to be doing, particularly in the Marsh refinery. It is a difficult game... and the patch won't get you through all of it.
You will need the patch, particularly on the "Devil Reef" section....and if you get stuck I hear it has a "God mode" now. I never used that, but the "Blue Light" problem with the Devil Reef battle would be a good time to use it if you have to. It took me a couple of weeks to beat that section.
