Game is broke?
looked really interesting and I was excited to purchase but right away, game had trouble loading up the first time, then the asylum intro was missing textures, then I got to the cultist mansion, went into the room on the first floor with all the books and keep crashing over and over and over. I downloaded the unofficial patch and then launched the game through the edited .exe file for the game and still it doesnt work. No clue what to do or how to fix. Anytime I walk through that mirrow I think is what triggers the crash. I turned the resolution down from 1920x1080 and I managed to go down from the mirror into the trap door but then again instantly crashed.

Yes, it is, I had glitchy experience too. I refunded it and tried GOG version with similar results. The game was released with many bugs in 2006, the developers went bankrupt and never properly patched it. Now in 2021 we still have the same version, only GOG has some tweaks that are insufficient.

I managed to finish the game a couple of months ago - the Steam version.

I played in on Windows 8.1 with resolution set on 1068x768, or something near that.

Yes the game has some glitches you have to work through. I had a lot of trouble with it trying to play it on 1400x900. You have to do a lot of work to get this game to play on a high resolution. Turn it down; it will save you a lot of headaches. Unless, of course, you are one of those that know how to hack the files.

I finished the game with 24 hours of gameplay, but it took over 16 months to complete. For me anyway. I'd drop it and then find out more information and start the fight from where I left off.

There are some parts you are going to need a walkthrough - text or video - to get to the next save point or even know what you are suppose to be doing, particularly in the Marsh refinery. It is a difficult game... and the patch won't get you through all of it.

You will need the patch, particularly on the "Devil Reef" section....and if you get stuck I hear it has a "God mode" now. I never used that, but the "Blue Light" problem with the Devil Reef battle would be a good time to use it if you have to. It took me a couple of weeks to beat that section.
