Ending Explained?
as a fan for lovecreaft and with five other games to check out: Call of Cthulhu- 2018. conarium, the sinking city, edge of nowhere and moons of madness. which look like better games than this mistake and i have been confused about the ending. you visit the house and alien base in one time line where its aged and falling apart and another when its all new.

i found this
https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/boards/470998-call-of-cthulhu-dark-corners-of-the-earth/50271032

but that doesnt explain the beginning and ending
the opening is the ending? how? as i said you visit the house at two different times
many plot holes too
was the Yithian taking the protagonist away, leaving the human or its shell behind cause didnt they say they needed him?

it makes perfect sense to me.

the beginning of the game is the ending. then the game does a flashback and takes you back to the cultist's house where you get body swapped with a yithian in the basement. so when jack was sent to the mental asylum the first time (after the cultist mission) it really wasnt him. it was a yithian inside his body. jack was in another another world with other yithians.

but at the end of the game(or the opening scene) thats really him trying to kill himself ( most likely due to a mental collapse)

this guy posted a good summary in that link you posted

Spoilers, obviously.

The opening scene at the asylum was also the ending scene. (But he actually died in the ending scene.)

Jack visited Arkham Asylum briefly after the incident at the house (when he was possessed by a Yithian). He then visited the asylum again when the Yithian left him (just before his assignment in Innsmouth). After bailing Innsmouth, the FBI interrogated him in the asylum. Finally, after he survived the events of the game, he was in the asylum yet again, where he killed himself.

His father was possessed by a Yithian during the moments of his conception, which is the BS explanation for why he could occasionally see through the eyes of others and why he could possess the deep ones during the final battle. (He was actually body jumping when he saw through the eyes of others.)
