Personally I feel like there are some things they could have done to better improve the gameplay and make the Death Angel Creature more intimidating and authentic but that's just me.
EDIT: It does kinda feel like they tried to go the Alien Isolation route a bit, but how they executed it was pretty poorly done. First off, Alien Isolation; The alien was always a threat, even when you thought it wasn't. It was watching, listening, and waiting. However there was always a chance to correct your mistakes and get away. Here; Yeah it's "always a threat"... But only when you make noise whether you are "evading it" in the parts that it is present or not. Which is another issue that I have with the game. Is it's little "puzzles" basically to get around the creature here and there. Just make the creature always present, regardless of you seeing it or not. Just like the movies. Just cuz you didn't see the creature(s). Didn't mean they weren't around listening and waiting.
Also it's kind of annoying that once you "make that noise" and "get caught" there is no escaping it. You are stuck in a cutscene basically holding your hand over your mouth until the creature kills you. I get it if the creature is like right next to you, but if it's not and you mess up, you should be allowed to try and fix it and escape instead of just helplessly getting killed
Basically how it works is you make a noise, there is a loud kinda dramatic tune that "warns" you, and then if you are on a part where you actually "encounter" it, it usually will roam in that area where you made the noise. Or if its the creature in the "background" (again kinda like when the alien is in the vent) you will hear it rustling around in the bushes in the background and make a noise or two. IF (whether it's physically present or not) you were to keep making noise or try to get away but accidentally mess up again, and it triggers the creature, it immediately locks you into that animation and you are dead, no escaping.
Sorry if this is kinda hard to understand, ngl explaining the mechanics without fully explaining the game is kinda hard lol
The monsters in AQP are much more relentless at how they search for you, and their scanning is an added dimension of horror due to the sound it makes and the screen blurring. You also have to many times navigate around the monster in AQP using various items, whereas in AI, you just sneak from one room to the next.
In AI, I found The Working Joes are actually harder to deal with than the Alien. I enjoyed both games, but it seems to me if there's going to be another AI, they need to step it up to keep pace with the way they're doing things in AQP.
AQP the Death Angel is the same no matter what. And it literally just roams around the map until you make enough noise for it to find you. It doesn't even have true "echo-location" capabilities ffs. It literally just roams around aimlessly until you mess up lol. And its the same all through out the game. Primarily because "lore wise" you are dealing with more than one Death Angel, so there really isn't even any room for it to canonically "learn" from you, because it might not be the same one. Alien Isolation you are only dealing with the one, same Alien till you blast it out into space lol. Then it changes a bit once you find the Hive Nest.
Sorry boss, but AQP has nothing that even closely touches Alien Isolation lol. And when the next game comes out, it will probably be even better.
(Also in Alien Isolation; There are mods that make the Alien even MORE threatening and dangerous and "natural" per se)
Secondly, adaptive AI only works well if you cannot easily cheese it. Meaning there's no way anyone adept at these types of games WOULDN'T choose to sneak and hide carefully, vs constantly tossing items, and risking having to use the flamethrower. That just screams someone too proud to admit they're up against a creature they cannot possibly kill.
I don't care how intricately or barebones one is made vs the other. The genius with AQP is you are required to do enough things just to get past these beasts, that it ensures you cannot just cheese them. To deny that is the equivalent of an aristocrat whom plays tennis thumbing his nose at pickle ball players, when he hasn't the skill to beat them at pickle ball, let alone tennis.
The real telling thing though, simply put, is you have to play AI a certain way for it to even be challenging, let alone scary. The real funny part though is you stooped to admitting you need to install a mod to make the Alien as scary as it should've been in the first place. I say it that way because after having played it, I don't feel the "even more" description is anywhere near accurate.
Moving on though, because these forums are not DMs to argue in. GGs with your very clear ignorance lol.
Too many forced scenarios to create a "game".
Protag doesnt have asthma. She's got panic attacks. Asthma doesnt really work that way. A single puff of a reliever to get you out of trouble? Yea right.
You cant outrun the monster. At least in Alien Isolation, you have a chance to run and hide. But here, if you mess up, the protag just gasps and a cutscene unfolds of the monster eating you.
All this just makes it super annoying to connect with the protag. I dont feel empathy...just...annoyance.
Gameplay itself is barren involving you to crouch and walk around the monster. You just pay attention to the sound device. As long as its below a certain threshold you are good. The puzzles where you need a plank to get over a gap or crevice is super annoying too. When you are carrying said plank you cant really drop it down anywhere you want. This creates a situation where you just "walk and hope for the best" rather than allowing you to strategize in any way.
Overall, uninstalled after a few hours of this waste of a game. Whereas I completed Alien Isolation.
