mic mute icon flashing

i enables the mic in the game and now i see a mic icon with a slash through it. does that mean the game doesnt detect my mic?

That means you are in a safe zone. Microphone gets activated when you have to escape for the first time. And no vents do not prevent you from getting killed xD.

I assumed this was the case, there are likely only set points in the game where the mic can actually attract the monsters.
