Steam is in fact capable to detect a PS3 controller.
1) Deinstall SCPToolkit and the drivers(!) or any other XInput-Wrapper
2) Connect your controller via USB. Open joy.cpl, the controller should be listed as PLAYSTATION(R)3 Controller.
3) In Steam settings under General Controller Settings, the controller should aswell be listed as Playstation 3 Controller.
4) Enable Playstation Configuration Support
You should be good to go.
Not all games offer PS button prompts. I refer you to PCGamingWiki[www.pcgamingwiki.com] for a (full) list.
There might exist mods on Nexusmods that add PS button prompts to unsupported games.
Hi, up until recently, I was using older STEAM with a 2017 Build of Windows 10 Pro...
I Installed PlayStation Now which came with a PS3 Controller Driver
I then went into Big Picture Mode & Configured STEAM to use PS3 Controllers...
Next In Any Game, I'd go into my Overlay & change the Controller Setting
that allows me to switch over from XBox Layout over to PSN Button Layouts...
This has worked with every Game, at least? Until you start Updating things...
Ever since, the PS3 Controller has not worked, & Controllers become more Broken here...
------>> There has never been any fixes for this ever since...
----------------------------------------------------------------
I think people have switched over to DS Tool, or some 3rd Party Tool from now on,
which now allows PS3 Controllers to use X-Box Controller Drivers, but this still does
not help that you still have X-Box Controller Layouts being used for Games...
It's crazy annoying no matter how you look at it...
People don't seem to get how different these Controllers really are in terms
of Button Layouts goes, But at least their Controllers work, & I guess that is
what really matters, is at least they work...
Good Luck With Your Decision...
For me, I had to run I think PS Now in the background while STEAM was running,
or it just worked without PS Now running... But I just used the Driver from PS Now...
The Scp Tool Kit is a pain in the rear like you said, & I quit using it after I got the
PS Now App... This even makes the Controller work with PS2 & PS3 Emulators,
when testing the Drivers out just to see if they work, sooo?
I never felt like I needed to use anything else, I mean even the Six Axis worked...
I also didn't have to worry about USB & Wireless...
It's just too bad the Driver is what it is, & it never gets Updated anymore, & the Newer
STEAM Updates & such, the more the Driver becomes broken, & non-functional...
I do not know if I still have a Controller Driver for the Controller that I used before
the USB thing, but my issue was that I think if you disconnect the Controller the
Controller would not sync up anymore. It was a simple easier Driver to work with
then Scp Tool Kit, but no one really used it besides me. Most use Scp Tool Kit now.
If the game supports a PS controller the correct icons show up,
If not it normally shows Xbox icons
The button icons are part of the game, not steam or Windows.
Hello, I entered Joy.CPL but the controller was not listed there, what can I do?
