SteelSeries Rival 500 Mouse sensitivity is super high and refuses to come back down no matter what I do.
I created a ticket for this earlier but I was furious when the person "helping" me said to get back to him regarding my problem, yet when I got back to him, he didn't give me a response for HOURS. I'm creating this ticket now because I want to get the attention of the workers because this is a huge problem for me, because the mouse buttons aren't broken, but something is wrong.

I'm afraid I'm going to have to buy a new mouse...

Yesterday, when I closed my laptop, I noticed my Rival 500 mouse was still on. It wasn't a common occurrence but it's not rare. It just means my laptop is still running. So I opened my laptop and then closed it again, and the light on my mouse didn't turn off. So I unplugged my mouse and then plugged it back in, and it made the double vibration. The light was still on, which confused me since it usually turned off after doing that stuff.

I opened my computer and when I logged in, I moved the mouse around and I started to freak out. My mouse cursor was moving at the speed of sound.

I went for the normal approach, and I pressed the DPI button on the top of the mouse.
It did nothing.

Confused, I created a ticket in the hopes of getting some answers, since THERE IS LITERALLY NOTHING ABOUT MY PROBLEM ON THE INTERNET.

NOTHING. AT. ALL.

Around 9:21am someone got back to me, and said this:
"Try doing a clean reinstall of both SSE and your device drivers using the following steps."

He gave me steps to uninstall SteelSeries 3 engine and to reinstall the latest version, which is the version I already had: 3.17.3

After those instructions, he told me to remove my Rival 500 Driver, which I did to the letter. I rebooted my computer and then plugged my mouse into a different USB port. I waited for the driver to re-appear and it did.

Hopeful I went to test out my mouse.

It didn't work...

IT DIDN'T WORK AT ALL!

I went to my Windows sensitivity settings and lowered it there, however the cursor was being thrown around to places I wasn't hovering to. The cursor began to bog and become janky. I changed the sensitivity back to the NORMAL SETTING, and I was met with more LIGHT SPEED CURSOR ACTION.

I made sure to let the support guy know that it didn't work, and he never responded for over 5 hours.

What I didn't understand was why it was not working, so I went into the SteelSeries engine itself. I changed the CPI of both numbers to 800 since that's what I played on. I hit SAVE and then the DPI button.

NOTHING CHANGED.

My cursor continued to roleplay as Speedy Gonzales, and I was left with more questions than answers.

In the Device Manager, when I would plug in the Rival 500 series, the driver for that mouse would appear with 2 other USB drives that go to the same location?

I don't understand why there are 2 of the same driver going to the same location as the driver for my other mouse... I'm not sure why they are the same and why they ONLY appear when I plug in my mouse.

I repeated the uninstall and reinstall process for both the engine and driver 4-6 times, and I GOT NO SORT OF OUTCOME I WANTED.

I even made windows forget my mouse and remove it from the settings too after I removed the driver a few times.

My mouse is still going super fast, and I know the buttons work because I bound the DPI button to the letter "A" so that way when I pressed it, it displayed the letter "A" in a searchbar, so the button isn't broken...

I tested all the buttons and they work like they should, I tested the vibrations and the timing, it worked like it should.

Acceleration and Deceleration work fine, though it's hard to tell since the cursor is moving SO FAST.

Manually changing the sensitivity of my cursor in Windows settings made playing games a hassle, since for no reason when I'm not moving it, it would move on its own even with the tiniest of movements.

I'm using SteelSeries Engine 3.17.3
My firmware version is: 0.101.0.0
My buttons work when they're bound to keys or vibrations
My buttons don't seem to change my sensitivity when I press the CPI toggle.
Manually changing my sensitivity toggles in the SteelSeries engine DOES NOTHING TO HELP.
Acceleration and Deceleration work though hard to tell.
Cooldowns work.
Clean uninstalls DO NOTHING.
Haven't even had the mouse for 7 months...
The Angle Snapping also works, and I can't really tell the difference with polling rate...

USB Power Settings:
-On Battery: ENABLED
-Plugged In: ENABLED.

Hey, I ran into this problem like a year back and never saw a way to resolve it. I ended up buying a new mouse. For me, the mouse worked perfectly fine without the steelseries firmware, just that you can't use the extra buttons anymore. I was wondering if you found a way to fix the issue?

Exactly same issue here. Found that changing multiplier via windows settings helped me to reduce the speed to atleast somewhat usable.

Very dissappointed with this bug, and lack of answers available online. Makes me feel anxious for my new ss keyboard too.

I don’t know
They followed up with reset instructions that did nothing. Offered a replacement rival 500 which I didn’t want. :bbtcat:
