Oblivion Crashes constantly!!

PLEASE HELP, Playing this game for 1st time on my win7 I52500K, 8gb ram, GTX 590, and game crashes every few seconds "oblivion has stpped working" i then have to reboot my computer as i am left with a horrible crash noice! i have done lots of reseach but cant find a solution, i got game of steam with the 50% off deal. there is no "ini" file. please help.

Go to your Oblivion Steam Folder. Right click on Properties->Local Files->Verify Integrity of Game Cache - just to be sure that your game copy is ok. Otherwise: go to your Steam\steamapps\common\Oblivion folder and read the README.TXT - there's a section about 'randomly crashing'. Overall: this game has been around a long time, running on millions of different PC's - I doubt it being a game-related problem - more likely, your drivers (DX, Graphics Card, Soundcard, DotNET Framework) - I ran the game on Win XP, Vista, Win7 32 and 64-bit with ATI/AMD and NVIDIA cards - never had a problem ... until I started modding it. ... and the ini-file is always there. Look in: "My Documents/My Games/oblivion
and maybe try to delete "oblivion.ini" - the game will create a new one at start (if you screwed something up).

I'm having the same problem. I checked the "read me" and they suggested:

"-Frequent Crashing possibly due to old system file
Some users may experience frequent crashing due to
an older system file. These crashes may be attributed to
the 'mpeg2dmx.ax' file. Simply renaming the file to
"mpeg2dmx.ax.old" may correct this issue."

My problem is that my computer can't find the "mpeg2dmx.ax" file.

I'm playing on Windows 7 and haven't added any mods.

i gave up and bought skyrim instead, its incredible so oblvion can go to hell :-)
