from the gates, and plus I've been playing this game since 2006, I was 9 so this game has alot of nostalgic value aswell.
considering you were 9 when the game came out, alot of your facts are going to be skewed by "nostalgia goggles"
Like a first love... your first truely great gaming experiance will linger, and improve itself in your memory to a degree it never actually reached.
As far as Skyrim goes, Its a game that has a Ton of improvements.... unfortunatly for us PC gamers... it was Primarily made for Console gamers (and their controller and play type in mind) This rubs the PC gaming community the wrong way in alot of ways.
Ill be the first to admit Skyrim focuses more on action and combat then on Plot and storyline. But Skyrim does combat spectacularly well.. Its combat system is far better and more engaging them Oblivions and Certainly far far more then morrowinds.
Alot of the "complaints" people have can be modded, or simply not used (like fast travel) if you want a more RPG experiance... yet people dont do this because its not as much fun as they actually thought when they do it... afterall this is a single player game... who are you trying to impress? (my horse is so cool, look at me travel across this landscape... im playing alone offline but if people COULD see me... man they'de say thats a cool dude)
anyhoo im rambling now.
In short Oblivion is a great game, i love everything about it. But, Skyrim is a great game too... they are not the same game, but simply based in the same "world" with the same "lore" Like Dungeons and Dragons settings, anything can happen in the realm with a different DM
Skyrim is bloody colourless...
Better than CoD.
So tired of the fanboi's inane ranting.
The team that made the "Skyrim" is not the same team that made "Morrowind"... or "Oblivion". There were people who worked on those titles sure; but different team atmosphere's, and leads.
These discussions are nothing more then the "James Bond" discussions. Sean Connery is the best! No way Pierce Bronson is the best! Your both idiots Daniel Craig is clearly the best! All are "James Bond" but none are the same. (Personally I liked Bronson)
If you dont like "Skyrim" fine, but go discuss it in the "Skyrim" forum, not in the "Oblivion" one.
1. a little fanboism is present in what you quoted, but that doesnt invalidate the multiple valid points he made.
2. Bethesda softworks was in charge of all 3, therefore we are well within our rights to expect the quality of the game to increase with each new game.
3. This is quite different from the bond discussion, because we actually interact with video games, instead of simply watching, as well as there being like 30 or more bond movies, and as such one horrible one isnt so much a black mark as in a series with only five.
4. The discussion involves both oblivion and skyrim, and involves what about Oblivion may have made it more or less fun than Skyrim, which means that the discussion belongs just as much on this forum as on the skyrim one.
no, i enjoyed two of those three titles (morrowwind is crap)
he made no "points" they are all false points. Skyrim has more voice actors then any previous game, and the range of voices is huge not "monotone" his fetch quest point is also invalid as many of the quests have nothing at all to do with fetching anything.
and i noticed he left out combat, which Skyrim blasts all previous titles easily, Skyrim's combat is hands down the very best as far as intensity, challenge, and style. both martial or magic
saying "Bethesda softworks was in charge of all 3" means VERY LITTLE when the actual "people" who made the game changed so dramatically from title to title.
Bethesda is merely the shell that all the people fill up. Like a candy, a chocolate shell containing almond cream is very different from one containing raspberry cream.
you have no "rights" to expect anything, Bethesda is a company... there to make money, considering how well skyrim sold and is selling, id say they are on the right track for making money, which is all any company really cares about. Good games make consistant money.
And your comparing apples and oranges... like everyone else.
Oblivion was made for PC (and ported to Console)
Skyrim was made for Console (and ported to PC)
the james bond thing was merely to show that no matter what, some people will say morrowwind was the very best TES title regardless of facts or discussion, the same can be said for any TES title.
Monotone:Having more voice actors does not mean that the voice actors have put more emotion into their work. Skyrim's random npcs are less emotive than the ones in oblivion, as well as saying the exact same line multiple times in a row a little more often.
The fetch quest: There are hundereds of them in skyrim, where as most the quests in Oblivion have something unique about them. Just because there are non-fetch quests in skyrim doesnt change the fact that most of them are, and are compiled madlibs style.
Combat: Both games have horrible combat, the only way to get 'dynamic' combat in either is to play archer or mage. A five second execution animation does not excuse being able to smack a guy over the head with a hammer weighing at least 50 pounds and not get any reaction. Aside from those kill animations and the additions of 'hose' magic and shield bash, it is the exact same combat system as oblivion.
Bethesda in charge: Do you honestly think they shuffle their entire staff after an elder scrolls game? Besthesda is not EA or some other massive company working on 12 things at once .
Bethesda is usually working on one or two games at a time at most, as such, most of their staff will be working on the same series as before.
Rights: We, as consumers, od have rights, not least of which being the right to expect the company to improve their work, instead of taking a step back. The problem is that too many people like you go, "oh, they made it, they can do whatever they want with it" and dont request more. Skyrim is a step back, they simplified and removed things that they had no real complaints about, and wound up with a game with very little diversity when unmodded.
Apples to Oranges: Got news for you, both were made for console, and then ported to pc. A lot of oblivions menu systems and mechanics make that rather obvious.
"Bond" Yes, because facts cannot and never will overrule opinion in the entertainment industry among those that do not know how to judge the game based on its mechanics and depth, rather than on how pretty it is. I know this, I CRINGE everytime someone calls World of Tanks good, simply because as a game, it is horrible, with mechanics that make little sense even after watching/reading the developer tutorials and a RNG tha tis excessively loose, especially for a shooting game.
You dont even own Skyrim... why are you discussing it? go away troll
sure, again, why are you even here discussing it. If you own it on console you have no right to talk about the PC version which can be heavily modded to your liking... unlike the console version
