Game Crashes constantly

So far the longest I have been able to play at one time is 3 minutes and then it crashes, every single time. I hear the audible windows error pop up in the background 10 to 15 seconds before it completely stops responding then it crashes. This game is completely unplayable and I hope they are working on a fix for it. I see the forums are completely filled with various problems of the game crashing at different points so I'm kinda glad it's not just me that's having this problem.

what are your specs? are you using any mods?

Try this: Open Oblivion.ini text file which is located in: My Documents/My Games/oblivion

And If you have a Dual/Quad core Processor or a processor with Hyper-Threading, then set these values to this:
bUseThreadedBlood=1 (default 0)
bUseThreadedMorpher=1 (default 0)
bUseThreadedTempEffects=1 (default 0)
bUseThreadedParticleSystem=1 (default 0)
bUseBackgroundPathing=1 (default 0)
bUseBackgroundFileLoader=1 (default 0)
iNumHavokThreads=3 (default 1)
iThreads=10 (default 3)
Otherwise leave them at the default.

My oblivion crashes too but it crashes right after an hour is up but i dont really see if its related, check and see if any mods are incompatible maybe?

Thanks for the tips. I tried the settings you suggested Water but it didn't help. Pumpy, I'm not running any mods so it is just a problem with the game itself. I see that nearly everyone that is having problems has the GOTY edition which is what I got as well. I purchased the GOTY deluxe edition, thinking it would be nice to have all the extra content and instead I'm stuck with a game that doesn't work. I'm running an intel i7 960 3.2Ghz with 24Gb of RAM and a Geforce GTX 260 Video Card. I can run nearly everything in the highest graphics settings without slowing it down even slightly, except Sleeping Dogs, I have to run that in High because extreme causes a slight frame delay. Whatever the issue is with the GOTY edition I hope they are currently working on it.

Try dissabling HDR Lighting (switch it to Bloom) in the launcher opions menu.

there's a patcher out there that everyone uses to get oblivion to quick ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ up on windows 7 64 bit systems. i forget what it's called, google will rectify this. have a look into it - my copy used to crash sometimes when loading areas before i had it patched.
