binkw32.dll error
anyone else get this problem with Oblivion? It is NOT a pirated version, it is Steam bought-anyone working for Steam can check and confirm that I paid. I have uninstalled and reinstalled three times now. I have gotten rid of all mods. The game worked the first time I tried it, but I uninstalled it due to mod troubles. Now, each subsequent reinstall, I just get the "binkw32.dll file is missing" error message when I try to even start the game. I repeat, I have uninstalled and reinstalled three times and the same problem is happening. My video card isn't the best (Intel one that came with the Dell), and I've read that that may be the problem, but then that doesn't explain why the error didn't happen the first time (and the graphics appeared on my screen just fine). I wrote an email to support, but thought maybe there's a chance someone else had and solved the same problem, and might get back to me before they do. Thanks in advance for any help.
ps Windows 7, Dell Inspiron 5520, and yes I rebooted the pc between uninstallation and reinstallation.

Does this apply to your problem ?

Problem

As soon as Oblivion is started up, the game crashes, the 'Bethesda Softworks' logo does not appear and the music goes into a loop. This began happening all of a sudden and with no previous major problems. I am unable even to uninstall the game. I tried reinstalling from the disk, but it had no effect.

Cause

Unknown. Best guess, .bik video files get corrupted. (You may have surpassed the 255 active mod limit. You can only have 255 esm/esp files active at once.)SolutionGo to your oblivion folder, then data and then video. Make sure to back it up. Remove all the intro videos.
Remove the following:
2k games.bik
game studios.bik
bethesda softworks HD720p.bik
Oblivion Legal.bik

If not, I will say this without any other information.

Simply un-installing and re-installing Oblivion does not clean the registry, the same as simply dissabling a mod and deleting it does not clear it from the registry (most but not all).

I'm sorry I can't be of much hwlp now as I am drunk (I think), still, here is a link to help you
clean install Oblivion[wiki.tesnexus.com] for now.

Sorry if it's not the right link, had a long week and letting off Steam now (see what I did there ?)

Are you using a 64 bit version of Windows?

Remove the mods, then verify the game cache.

JrB, no the problem you mentioned is not happening--no music loop, and the game uninstalls just fine (or appears to). However, I'll try that "clean install" you're alluding to, and see what happens. Thanks for the tip, and yes I see what you did there. No worries about the drunkenness, I myself am waiting until I can pair up some modded Oblivion gaming with a six-pack of some nice craft brews!

Lady Futa,
Nope, 32 bit. Should I still remove the mods? And when you say remove, do you mean delete as opposed to just uninstall? I uninstalled all of them before uninstalling the game, but did not delete them.

update:
the problem was my Oblivion.exe desktop shortcut all along- I didn't even have to do all those stupid uninstall/reinstalls. I'll just have to open it from the folder from now on (actually now opening it via the OBSE exe from the folder--starting to get the hang of these mods and utilities!).
thanks again for the help
