Controller supported?
I wonder if Oblivion supports the xbox controller, can anybody tell me?

First of all, why would there be any abuses about consoles being better than PC and vice versa? Each gamer chooses his path on his own, relax.

Second of all, I was playing Oblivion on PC for a month (love dem 'ol gamez) and to play with controller I needed third-party stuff. So I created an Oblivion controller support preset[www.rewasd.com] , and it saved my day. As this thread is older than ((ummm)) my Blizzard account, I don't expect a lot of emotions, but I really hope this will help out some wanderer! (:

idk dude, I kind of like watching em fight?... I would conclude that it´s a case to case basis considering both the person´s setting and the game mechanics, but I´m not telling them just yet, the popcorn is still popping...

@DEAD_KOUBALHTHS idk why I'm even getting in on this but you do need to aim if you want to use bows or target spells. There's also a pretty important tech that you can only effectively do on keyboard that lets you avoid ranged attacks really easily. Oblivion is a first person RPG so I think for maximum success you do want to be using mouse and keyboard, but controller works fine if that's your deal.
I'd use a controller if I was just doing some casual Oblivion with some friends over but if I'm doing max difficulty or a challenge run I'm on mouse and keyboard.

The mod NorthernUI works quite well. I still have to map the hotkeys with joytokey.

I can't believe that thread that I once commented on more than seven years ago is still alive and active !!

I loved this game back in '07 but I fell in love with it on Xbox 360... So... It just dont feel right in my hands, playing it on the keyboard. I'm a very skilled fighter with the Xbox controller. But not so much with K&M I lose my fluid motions and my fighting style. Its hard to recreate my moves with a Mouse and Key. And the hits dont FEEL like anything because theres no vibration. So all the hits feel very ghostly. I feel more in the world, when my controlled shakes when an Oger bashes my shield. Its a small thing but it helps you FEEL the world of Oblivion. If that makes any sense.

I actually agree. When I play on controller it feels more fun to do simple stuff and it makes the combat feel weighty. But once you start getting into more complex strategies there's a lot of menuing and precise techniques that are more difficult to do on controller. Plus, you don't get access to console commands, which are a lot of fun but also very convenient if you want to get into optimal leveling and track information easily.

I've not tried Oblivion with it but I recently configured a PS3 controller to work with my PC as I'm using an Amiga emulator to play some old games and some I can't configure the mouse and keyboard for so have to use a joystick or controller. My joystick just about did the job but it took a few minutes to get the PS3 controller working and it makes some games a lot easier to play. I prefer mouse and keyboard for some games but there are some that work just as well with a controller.

Personally I prefer M&KB for Oblivion (which is weird to me as I like Skyrim with a controller and started off playing Oblivion on a 360), anywho, although I have a few 360 controllers knocking about I generally will use a XBONE controller for convenience (pure laziness truth be told)

I have had no problems using said controller with the Steam input UI and then just either mapping the buttons to your preferred configuration or grabbing a community created template and tweaking it to your liking no ?

What is this intervention going on in here

Wrong, using a mouse is far more accurate and faster than analog stick when moving the camera around and/or aiming the crosshair. Your fringe anecdotal experience doesn't negate the statistical reality that a mouse is overwhelmingly superior.

Pretty important tech...like what? And while Oblivion's combat is optimized for first person, it can be played quite well in third person in other instances.

MSRP or used/refurbished?

The way I look at it is: PC's were made for microsoft word and the like, consoles were made for gaming specifically.
Water is wet, sky is blue, every minute 60 seconds pass. Also, consoles have been watered down gaming PCs for approximately the last 15 years (20+ for Xbox). Meanwhile gaming PCs have become more console-like over time.

Even when proper gaming PCs weren't a thing, consoles were just watered down arcade machines. The reality is that consoles while were made for gaming, were never quite good for them except for the lowest common denominator...well until Android and iOS came along.

I myself abhore using a keyboard and mouse, and before you say anything about me being too used to controllers, I have tried keyboard and mouse for twenty years and still abhore the delayed reaction time in searching for the right key.
Delayed reaction is either a you problem or the specific peripherals you bought, not the issue of keyboard and mouse in of itself. There's plenty of gaming and even non-gaming mice where you can bind extra functions to the mouse, so that you don't have to bind them to the keyboard if that's what you're referring.

I am now a PC gamer and still won't play a game unless it has controller support. Who would want a controller for what is essentially a point-and-click action.
Then go ahead and lose out on many fun experiences. Sure let's accept your strawman, and ignore how Oblivion has many features better or mandatory with keyboard. I would state them, but someone else already listed some examples.

I have since downloaded it and it still has poor optimisation. I share in the disappointment of the OP.
So basically you're admitting to piracy? Or did you buy it elsewhere on GoG, Epic Games, or Microsoft Store? And what do you mean "still"? Oblivion was unoptimized to begin with on all platforms, as typical of Bethesda. And as expected, Bethesda just leaves modders to fix everything that they don't, and they move on from their games after awhile.

lol imagine not using an ergonomic controller that was made for exactly that purpose- to play games. I couldn't imagine the cringe.
posture is determined more by how you position yourself while gaming, as well as the monitor/screen, rather than the control medium that's used. and that's ignoring the fact that ergonomic keyboard and mice exist, both gaming and not for gaming.

lol imagine assuming all gamepads are somehow ergonomic for majority of demographics, instead of for niche demographics. i just can't imagine the cringe at how you ignore how terrible the Collecovision, Intellivision, Atari (pretty much all models), Nintendo 64, original Xbox, Wii Classic (gamepad), and WiiU controllers are. not to mention how tiny DualShock 1-3 are, even for adolescent gamers that aren't physically underdeveloped, along with Xbox 360 and One gamepads being too large for women and child gamers, only that flaw being corrected Xbox Series respectively.
