The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Game of the Year Edition (2009)

DLC not working?
I recently bought ES: IV GOTY edition and when you do the "Door In Niben Bay" quest which is from the Shivering Isles DLC pack.. when I approach the "Strange Door" all of the sudden appears yellow squares with exclamation points, including two NPCs apparently swimming 20 feet above me. I figure that may be a texture pack issue but I don't know what any other reason would be for that. Do I need to re-download the game and check the DLC on my files? Any help would be much appreciated.

Try to verify files integrity, see if that helps. If not, re-download would be the best option.

I also have this problem, I know I have done some of the quests beyond the door, but I recently started a new game and that one has exactly the same issues as described above. I suppose re-downloading means uninstalling and re-installing, causing me to lose my safe files and everything doesn't it?

yellow squares point to missing mesh files, as in oblivion/data/meshes/

That solution page seems to assume there are mods installed, which is not the case, so I don't know if it will be any use?

Wow, so it happens to you in a vanilla game? My Oblivion install I just use the base game and SI DLC, no others. I did notice one time there was a missing mesh in Battlehorn Castle near the basement somewhere, so I decided to remove it and any dirty DLCs (As in dirty edits). SI, was clean, and thus kept. Dunno if you want to do this though. :/

well the thing is I downloaded game of the year edition when it was on sale a while back, so it comes with the shivering isles and another expansion pack I believe. A long time back I actually did some of the shivering isles quests and everything, but I recently started a new game and now the entire island that is supposed to hold the 'strange door' is not there and replaced by a number of yellow blocks with exclamation marks and there are two npc's swimming... so I can't do any of the quests, while I never changed anything about the game, I've tried reinstalling the game, which didn't solve anything so I'm really not sure what the problem is or how I can fix it
i would suggest that you back up your save data and then go for a full uninstall-reinstall to make sure that its not the expansion packs first. it is what i would do, i wouldnt want to lose all of my progress. and then id make sure to make a test save just to see if things are in working order. and then put all my backed up saves back into the save folder to continue on.

open the lancher and click the data files button look and see if they are crossed. if aren't click the box to put a cross in it and it sould work

I already completely reinstalled the game and still had the same issue, I don't know if the other expansion pack has the problem, but it is definitely the shivering isles expansion, because I'm quite sure the Niben Bay mysterious door is shivering isles territory, I don't know about the data files thing, but I will have a look next time I play =)

edit: just started it up to check the data files... they weren't on apparently, so I checked them, started up the game and it's working. Can't believe it was that simple, I feel like such an idiot XD

Thanks dude =)

Just ran into this problem. Spent hours scouring the internet for a resolution, finally found this discussion board. Saved my sanity, thank you so much!!!

This happens when expansion isn't turned on in the data files.
For some reason some of SI content is included in Oblivion esm in GOTY version, hence the door and the quest are tecnhically there, but all data is missing.
How can you play a Bethesda game without checking data files first? That's 40 IQ.
