Join the Thieves Guild. You can get lockpicks from any of the Fences you have access to.
When you are level 10 do Nocturnals Daedric Quest for the Skeleton Key. It is an unbreakable lockpick.
You can also use a glitch to get tons of lockpicks.
Pickpocket an NPC and try to place alot of weighted items such as arrows on the NPC.
You will get a message saying you can't do that. Then transfer them a single lockpick without leaving the pickpocketing menu and that one lockpick will transfer to the NPC and transform into how ever many arrows you tried to give the NPC. You have to have more arrows than lockpicks to do this.
For instance pickpocket an NPC. Try to place 100 arrows on the NPC. Then place 1 lockpick in the NPC's inventory. Check their items and they will have 100 lockpicks. Exit and save. Then pickpocket the 100 lockpicks from the NPC. If they catch you just reload.
However doing that will add 100 items pickpocketed to your statistics. It only works with weightless items that aren't quest items.
I've played through the game many times and i'm really tired of looking at iron, steel, leather, or fur armor on my character.
When making a new character I use console to create a nice looking set of armor to start out with. Since I made a female character this time, I used console to create a set of Golden Saint Armor and a set of Dark Seducer armor. I used the codes for the dwarvish level armor since I usually get to level 5 by training skills that level me quickest. I usually get to level 5 before I do anything else using easy skills.
I also created a durable silver dagger and durable silver shortsword to use as my training weapons because they are twice as durable as normal weapons and are great to use to skill up with. They are also not any more powerful than weapons that are readily available to the character at level 1.
I normally get Umbra and the Honorblade of Chorrol by doing the quests immediately anyways, which I use as my main weapons especially since they are both weightless.
I do however make a few items to make things a little easier, but more importantly make the game more convenient and less time consuming.
I use console to make Acrobat's Amulet and Ring of Skimming so that I can run faster so running back and forth doesn't take so damn long. Before you say get a horse, I usually do as I always use the Unicorn immediately at the start. Still your character is usually very slow doing other things and everything takes longer to accomplish. I don't know about you, but I value my time and would rather not waste it running in slow motion for most of the game.
I also make a Ring of Perfection which I suppose is a little over-powered at early levels, but I feel the ring is practically worthless when you actually are allowed to find it. By the time you have acces to it at level 20 there are better rings to use. Namely Mundane Ring + Ring of the Iron Fist.
So to me, by creating the ring using console I can make better use of it before it becomes obsolete. The ring of perfection is nice at the early levels because it allows you to increase your carrying capacity, and increase your Health, Magicka, and running speed a little bit. +10 to all stats sounds overpowered but if you think about it that is only a 2 level boost for any given stat. I don't think that is very overpowered as much as it is useful. You probably would barely even notice the difference and if you did all you need to do is turn up the game difficulty a tad to compensate if you have a problem with it.
Learning to use the console is very useful. I don't know how many times I have lost items that fall through the ground. Using tcl in console to enable noclip allows you to get any items you lose through the floor and in some cases allows you to find some items you never even knew were there.
This game has alot of bugs and other issues. Sometimes you have to use console to fix things that get messed up.
Last night while doing the Shivering Isles quest in Split called the Great Divide, I entered a house to kill one NPC and all other NPC's were a little ways off. I was in the house for like 2 minutes and after I killed the NPC and exited 3 of the NPC's were somehow magically near puddlejump camp. Saving and reloading several times I could sometimes get close to their location, but no matter what someone would die and I would fail the quest. That is BS.
So I used console to save them by moving them to my location.
Using console is necessary sometimes and taking advantage of it is not as pathetic as being a little narrow minded, but to each their own.
