Quick question - number of "use" of a weapon?
Hi guys,

While I understand magical weapons have charges, and need to be recharged, what's with the "use" number?

And some hand-to-hand weaons have "use" numbers too. My Elven Bow doesn't have a "use", though.

I tested it out, by attacking with a magical staff with a "use". Apparently each hit I physicall land on the enemy counts as a "use"??? That's ridiculous-------what if I use a sword with only 50 "use"? I don't keep track of how many times I've hit the enemy with that sword, and thus could run out of "use" in the middel of a combat and be ♥♥♥♥♥♥???

Ok, where on regular (non enchanted / magical) weapons do you see a "use" number ?

Are you referring to the health stat of the weapon ? If so, that's what repair hammers are for, or get them fixed at an armourers.

For re-charging magical weapons, your best bet is to learn the "Soul Trap" spell and stock up on Soul Gems.

I'm not sure that I have understood your question right, so sorry if my answer isn't of any help to you.

Hey man, thanks for helping out!

I'm still very new to this game, hence these unintelligent questions.

You are right, the "use" I see are probably only on magical items. I understand about the number of "charges" (usually numbers). I also understand that these items could be charged with the means a soul stone or at mages. What I do not understand is the number of "uses" ?

The "uses" just shows how many times you can use the enchanted weapon before it's depleted.

Number of uses on weapons is how many times you can hit enemies with it and have the enchantment on it take effect. Each time you hit a target will count as one use. When all the uses are used up, the enchantment will no longer function until it is recharged.

Hmmm. So how is "uses" different from "charges" then? You'd think that number of "charges" is how many times the item could unleash magical effects. OR AM I WRONG?

Dexter, are you saying that:

Uses = number of times the weaon PHYSICALLY landed on the enemy

Charges = number of times a "spell" could be casted by the weapon?

No. The item doesn't use 1 charge per use. Hitting an enemy with an enchanted sword might, for example, use 25 charge out of whatever's the max. How much charge the item uses depends on how strong the enchantment is, among other things, but that's pretty much useful only when enchanting your own items. So you can safely just ignore the charge bar and keep an eye on the "uses" instead.

First off, a magical weapon is enchanted with a number of charges. The number will depend on the enchantment, Soul Gem type and level and the level of the caster. Then the spell effects will use a certain amount of charges. Both of these sets of numbers are rather large and can be ignored unless you want to mod a weapon or enchant one yourself.
What the player needs to know is how many uses does the magical weapons has, because seeing "this weapon no longer has enough charges to function" is rather annoying during combat. Especially when charges do not affect the base damage
Check out those Aylied Ruins, most of them will have those Varla Stones so you can recharge those magical weapons without having to go back into the city.
Hint: Carry a few magical weapons at the same time, and do not use the Varla Stone until all your weapons need recharged.

BTW, do not confuse the Varla Stones with Welkynd Stones. Varla Stones are much larger and are usually kept in a cage that you have to find a button to open.
