Do you run the unofficial patches from the Nexus[oblivion.nexusmods.com] ? They have sorted out all manor of glitches for me.
Edit :
They are on the second and third lines of the results on the link above.
If you have a lot of special items from mods, it is best to leave them behind somewhere secure because you loose them when you get the Mythic Dawn Robe. Just go in with the basic vanilla items.
Yep, you have a big battle to win before you get your items back. So if you cannot win that battle, you need to level up some more to where you can win a big melee battle with just a dagger, spells and weapons captured from kills in the current battle. Kill the one with the Lightning Staff first.
That Mythic Dawn Lair Battle is another reason I suggest that your character should be at least Level 12 before beginning the Main Quest.
BTW, I think it might be magical items without any lore that may cause the crash. That or an over encumbrance of the guy taking your items. The Arrows Way Nothing Mod might contribute to that.
The game will crash if you are wearing bound armor. Maybe other items cause the same problem. Try stripping down completely before you talk to him. Maybe try leaving any suspect equipment or items in storage.
I'm not running any mods right now. Everything I have is from the game. The over-burden idea aint too bad, I'll find a place to store stuffs before I try again.
I also have some quest items in my inventory and maybe the whole "can't remove quest items" thing might have something to do with it.
Anyway, thanks again for the input and I'll try messing around with what's in my inventory and see if that helps.
