What nVidia settings to use for Oblivion ?
Ok, so I am pretty late to the party with this. Read a great article on the GeForce website about sugested nVidia control panel setting for Skyrim a few weeks ago, went in changed the settings, and all thing that were good, became better.

I have yet to read or a similar article, for Oblivion. I found and read a few old posts on various forums, and have had a little trial an error tinckle myself. Not done much yet, but the one thing I can say is I prefer the looks of it with Ambient Occlusion off rather than on.

So like the title of the thread says, (for those that use nVidia cards) what settings do you run ?

In-game settings I have set as high as I want, including HDR. Since Oblivion can't have HDR and Anti-Aliasing at the same time, my overridden Nvidia settings include 16x CSAA Antialiasing and 8x Anisotropic filtering.

In-game, I also have it set for Windowed mode to make it friendly for alt-tabbing, but it also breaks Vsync and makes it so there is a Window border. So to get past the lack of Vsync, I use D3DOverrider to force Vsync and Triple-buffering since forcing those settings in the Nvidia control panel did nothing. To deal the Window border, I was using a custom AutoHotKey script to resize the window and remove the border, but it was flakey, so I now use GameCompanion to force the windowed mode to go borderless full screen. This last paragraph only applies if you like to use windowed mode and if vsync is important to you.

Hey, thanks for your reply. I do run the game in full screen, but your work around to the Alt+Tab is interesting.

I have tried a couple of setups now, but keep reverting back to the basic one I started with. The settings that I am currently running are just: 16x Anisotropic filering, TF Negative LOD bias - Clamped, and Texture Filtering - High Quality.

I did try a setup through nVidia Inspector that among many other settings included forced AA (along with in game HDR) both 16xCSAA and 32xCSAA, but I didn't think that either improved the overall look of the game, hence I reverted back to the relatively basic settings I have now.

I confess that much of the additional settings that were changed in the profile I used I have no clue as to what they mean or do, so I feel the need to experiment a bit more.

So still messing about with the settings.

I really can't seem to get on with HDR and Anti-aliasing running together. Am I missing something ?

runs fine with both, but to my eye, the Anti-aliasing seems to blur the texture detail up close and doesn't look as good.

I can only assume that I am not putting in the right settings. Most other games that I have used the AA in have always benefited from it.

Any sugestions ?
