Problem setting hotkeys?
Recently, I've experienced setting hotkeys. I've always set "1" to be torches, but lately the game doesn't seem to remember this. I often have to re-map "1" to torches.

Any idea why?

It probably happens after some of your torches go out. The same thing would randomly happen to me with repair hammers mapped.
That's weird eh? You'd think that as long as I have torches in my inventory, the hotkey would continue to work.

This makes no sense - what if I map healing potions to hotkey? If the same things happens, I'd be ♥♥♥♥♥♥ in the middle of a fight, trying to replenish, but find my hotkey isn't working???

I've never had the problem happen with healing potions or poisons (unless I actually ran out of them, of course). I think this is because potions and poisons are always one time use.

A lit torch goes into a separate inventory status when in use since they have limited duration status. So when that torch goes out it is removed from your inventory, thus deleting the hotkey too.
Since the torch is about the only item with a limited use, nobody has bothered to fix this bug. It is just easier to hotkey it to a Nighteye potion or play a character that has Nighteye like a Kajit.

I usually bind 4 to torches. 1 is Umbra, 2 is my bow, 3 is Mehrunes Razor. That is my Counterstrike mentality 1 is primary weapon 2 is secondary 3 is knife =D. I never had the problem you mention with torches that I recall.

When I first started my current character, I was having the same problem, but with 3 being bound to the body armor I was using, so I could easily unequip it to run faster. For some reason it kept getting unbound. At the time I thought it had to do with having a second one in my inventory and it became unbound or because I put the one I was wearing in a container later to use the newer one so I didn't have to repair it.

I think it becomes unbound when the item you bind is no longer in your inventory. In the case of torches, the game only recognizes the torch you had bound and when that one is gone the bind disappears.

You can probably test it by using a torch with the bind and jumping in a lake. When the torch goes out check to see if your bind is still there.
