The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Game of the Year Edition (2009)

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Game of the Year Edition (2009)

Is there anyway to restore the game to vanilla with Steam?
So, I downloaded a few mods yesterday, and I guess I broke my game with missing meshes and stuff. So I deleted the mods and any trace of the mods (one of them was the DMRA body mod, don't judge) and now walking around town I see missing mesh exclamation marks everywhere. I think I may have overwritten some default things and now I don't have them. Uninstalling and reinstalling the game doesn't work. I'm also an idiot and forgot to back-up my game files. So uh, any way Steam will let me roll back to vanilla?

I don't see why reinstalling wouldn't help if you're doing it right, but have you tried verifying the game cache? Right click on the game in your library > Properties > Local Files > Verify integrity of game cache. If you're missing some files Steam should then redownload them.

Verifying didn't work either. I uninstalled through the steam client. Do you think that if I actually went into the common folder under steamapps and deleted oblivion from there, it would work?

Ah, that explains it. Uninstalling a game through Steam only removes files installed by Steam. In other words, it doesn't remove mods, or any other files you might've added yourself. Yes, manually deleting the whole oblivion file from steamapps should do the trick. You might also want to check whether there's still a folder in My Games, and remove that as well for a complete uninstall.

Yes, it most likely would. The steam uninstall usually does not get rid of files added or changed by mods, at all. After you delete the game and then manually delete the remaining files in your installation and install your game again it should work.

e: Looks like I type too slow. :p
