Altmer + Atronauch tips
I want to play this pure mage build that everyone says is good. Putting major skills as minor skills. What are some tips for early levels.

I generally do not play as a Pure mage, but if you are looking for a good mage build I suggest the following which is a slight deviation from the default Mage class.

Specialization: Magic

Attributes: INT, WILL

Major Skills:

Alchemy
Alteration
Destruction
Illusion
Mysticism
Light Armor
Blade, Blunt, or Mercantile. Whichever you will use least.

I suggest not using Conjuration as a Major so you can raise it simultaneously with Destruction as your major. This will allow you to raise the best mage skills by 10 each level and get +5 stat boosts for Intelligence and WIllpower each level until they are capped.

You will be able to cap destruction and conjuration by level 8 or 9 with this build if you want to grind it out.

You can keep Restoration as a major if you prefer, but I like being able to cure myself as often as I like without it making me gain a level. You can also take a shower while your character spams restoration just to artificially increase it. I like getting it up to 50-75 asap in order to make more powerful health regen spells.

With Light Armor as a major you can have decent skill for when you start using bound armor.

As far as tips. Join the Mages guild, obviously. Do the recommendation quests to gain access to the arcane university asap so you can make custom spells.

You can make custom spells that will allow you to gain skill ups and level ups more quickly. Spells with low magicka costs that you can spam.

Spells like Restore Fatigue 3 pts for 1 sec on self, Bound Boots for 1 sec on self, Frost Damage for 1 sec on self etc. You can make one of these spells for all your magic types.

Then you just spam them to gain quick levels if you want.

The Atronach sign is very tough for a pure mage, but rocks for a semi-mage. If you're a pure mage you're going to be running out of magicka all the time. Time to craft magicka regen potions.

As for major skills, my strategy was to put most magic skills as minor skills, with melee stuff as major skills. This let me level me magic skills without worrying about bumping a level, then when I wanted to level I just melee'd a summons (or went to the arena). On the other hand, I am also using Galerions leveling mod, so I'm not worried about my attributes. If you're doing vanilla leveling you'll need to pull out a spreadsheet and figure out your leveling strategy.
