The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Game of the Year Edition (2009)

Fonts are too large?

I've installed the Unofficial Oblivion Patch and Unofficial Shivering Isles Patch and BOSS has applied what appears to be the correct load order.

The game however has issues where various menu buttons are reacting to the mouse being in an incorrect position (offset from where the button is visually located) and text in various places is getting cut off o_O

I've tried Windows XP Service Pack 3 compatibility mode, disabling visual themes, desktop compositor, display scaling on high DPI settings etc. as well as runing the game as an administrator and nothing resolves it.

I'm running Windows 7 Home Premium Service Pack 1 with the latest updates and a Geforce 560Ti with the very latest beta driver.

I'm not sure exactly what is causing that or if it is just normal. I don't see why installing the Unofficial Patches would have such an effect. I am sure if that was an issue people would have reported it already. The problem is probably caused by something else. Possibly your screen resolution.

You should install the DarNified UI mod and see if it helps. Darnified will make all the icons and fonts smaller. I use the large setting and it is still smaller then the default font.

* Edit *

Here is a screenshot to show the difference using DarNifed UI.

Pay no attention to the Imperial face as my character save1 is female. I loaded the save and changed her race so I could take a screen shot of the Imperial male description for comparison and it is using the facial dimensions of my character. I am using Oblivion Character Overhaul too.

I believe I had used DarnifiedUI before and got rid of parts of it recently, which could be the cause. It uses OBSE right?

I'm not sure if it uses OBSE, but I don't think it does. I didn't see it listed in the install instructions. I am using OBSE however so I can't tell if it works without it.

Well, I don't think I can resolve the issue with the use of another mod (Darnified UI resolves some issues but introduces others). I might just reinstall the game. Thank you for the help.

Well after you delete local content delete the whole Oblivion folder and the remnants that are left over to completely erase everything before you reinstall.

After you reinstall the game, if you have enough hard drive space I recommend making a backup of the data folder to make it easier to start mod installations over again if necessary without needing to redownload the files. That is of course if you plan to use mods again after you reinstall.

The original BSA/ESM files wouldn't have been manipulated by any of the mods, right? All mods would install their textures and stuff in special override folders?

I've basically deleted everything (Including the ESM/ESP/BSA files installed by mods) except the original BSA/ESM files, BOSS, OMM and OBSE. Then I told Steam to verify the integrity of the game cache. This process saves me downloading 7~GB of data.

Update: Someone on the Nexus forum pointed me to the cause of the menu button problems, it happens when you modify a FOV setting in the games INI file.

Oh i see. Glad to hear you found a solution. Does that mean you will continue to use mods without the FOV settings or are you giving up on modding?

To answer your question, the original files shouldn't be manipulated by mods. The only way to alter them is using the construction set. All the original files should remain intact.

However I am not completely sure about what happens when adding meshes and textures that don't come with an ESP or how they may affect the original game files if at all.

Yeah, definitely sticking to mods but not lots of mods. I usually use mods that make the vanilla experience less buggy, rarely do I use texture/UI mods except in cases where the author tries to retain the original aesthetics while improving the clarity/resolution of textures or the changes genuinely improve the existing functionality without changing gameplay mechancs dramatically.

I myself enjoy modding the game. I have been installing a bunch of mods just to see what they do.

It started with just improving the graphics using Qarls texture pack, oblivion character overhaul, and changes to landscapes, and sounds, but I went with more dramatic changes recently since I have over 1700 hours played in Oblivion and just wanted a new experience.

I am pretty new to the DarNified UI. I just installed it a few days ago and it took alot of getting used to seeing such small looking text and icons, but I like being able to see more equipment and items on my screen while looking through the menu without needing to scroll as often to find things. I think I have finally adapted to the change.

I believe the Darnified UI also displays more stats for gear, making it a lot easier to identify which is a better upgrade to your current gear etc.

So yeah, a reinstall of the game as well as undoing the FOV tweak seems to have fixed everything.
