Best way to mod Oblivion with Nexus mod manager
I am looking for the best way to mod oblivion with or through Nexus mod manager, I have modded Skyrim with Nexus mod which seem to be much easier (a DL and plug in style). For Oblivion I would mainly like the graphics to be maxed as much as possible. I have seen on YouTube people downloading oblivion mod manager and some other ♥♥♥♥ that just seems like more of a pain, is this the only way?

thanx for reading and any answers

You don't really need ANY mod manager for Oblivion really, all you need to do is download the mod and place the meshes/textures and or .esp file in your DATA folder

is that data folder under steam/common/oblivion or something els?

Don't use the nexus mod manager to install all your mods on oblivion. It's only ideal with very few which specifically mention it, and it's alright with some that only require for you to drag and drop. But using the nmm by default will either cause you problems with most other mods or won't install them properly.

Oblivion mod manager and wrye bash is what you should be using instead. I also recommend the archive invalidation for oblivion (automatically does the proccess for you -which is neccessary for most mods), as well as boss to sort your load order if you're going for more than just a handfull of mods.

As for the graphics to be maxed out like in the youtube videos"you're going to have to choose between 2 routes, OBGE or enb -you can't use both at the same time. These must be installed manually.

The rest comes down to getting the mods and following the instructions. It could be a pain, especially given Oblivion isn't exactly well optimized by itself, let alone when you strap a ton of mods to it. Not saying it's impossible to run it without problems whilst using a ton of mods, but running into problems with mods is normal.

Don't use BOSS. The people who made it have moved on to LOOT.

Use Wrye Bash along with Oblivion Mod Manager. Nothing can replace those two.

Thanx guys for the info, I do appreciate it. Honestly with all that work I'm not sure if I will do it or not it might be more work than I was hoping for. I am not too familiar with modding only have done it on Fallout New Vegas and Skyrim, Fallout New Vegas gave me some problems and some just didnt work but I have not had any on Skyrim. the download plugin play style is about the max I could probably handle, download unzip paste and/or move to a new location and downloading a whole new or 2 managers would be too much for me personally. and with some save issue problems already and no Xbox one controller support ill just try to fix that for now.

Regardless of what we say though. The best method would be to simply read the readme's in detail. If you don't understand some expressions, you can come back here for us to explain. We probably will need a sticky for that. You could also try the official forums, there are awesome guidelines there for modding.

OBSE, Block Heads, Oblivion Character Overhaul and Natural Enviroments are what I used, and I used mod manager for everything but OBSE and things work fine. (Plus the look great.)

Then I got greedy and tried to throw OBGE into the mix. Bad move, game started crashing. I have since removed it and things work again - but the mod seems to have left some of it's bugs behind. For instance, everytime I log out the game crashes now. A minor annoyance. I'm sure I could fix it by reinstalling everything but it doesn't bug me enough to bother.

The crashing on exit happens with or without mods, fortunately there's "Fast Exit"[www.nexusmods.com] which eliminates this.

How about Mod Organizer? I think it's the best tool for Skyrim modding so why not for Oblivion too?
Mod Organizer is the best manager but it is beyond many people. For a newbie it might be best to start off with another learn the ins and outs of it and then use MO if needed.

For a simple example why MO is so great think about this. Lets say you have a 100 plus mods and you come across a total overhaul that doesn't work with any other mods. With MO you can just create a new profile for the total overhaul. So you could play your 100+ mods on the default profile and play the overhaul on the new profile. You do this without adding any files to oblivion.

That isn't possible with any other manager.

Another example. Lets say you think one mod out of the 100 mods you downloaded is causing a CTD. With MO you can just create a profile for that one mode and test it. With any other manager you would have to uninstall all your mods first before testing that one mod.

Another example. Lets say more than one person in your house plays the game but both you use different mods. Maybe you use porn mods and the other person doesn't. With MO both of you can run just the mods you want without uninstalling the other mods. Not possible with any other organizer.

Another example. Maybe you want to use different bodies with different armor. So what I do is group bodies to match armor mods. With MO I can easily change armors and bodies by changing the install order or shutting down a group of mods and then activating another group of mods.

On a different note someone suggested using Loot. Do not do this use Boss. Use Loot for Skyrim and the Fallouts. You will F up your game sooner or later if you use Loot. Don't take my word for it just read the Boss and Loot forums.

>>Replace any Hearts you see in the links with Lovers Lab (no space between) <3<3

1.BOSS for Oblivion, not LOOT

2. You probably should use use TesMM (a newer version of OBMM I believe), The Elderscrolls Mod Manager, and NMM, Nexus Mod Manager, somewhat.

3. You could use MO for Oblivion. "I myself use Mod Organizer, but that means manually installing/restructuring most mods so MO can install them, and OBSE plugins need to be manually copied and such. If you are willing to risk life and limb, that might be one option, but only if you know how to install mods manually, and do not mind maybe spending some time trying to figure out why not everything works as intended. It is not for the faint of heart, and because OBSE plugins need to be manually installed, the profile system in MO is not all that useful with Oblivion (I myself only use one profile). MO has the bsa timestamp reset feature, too. But do try Wrye Bash, it is probably easier to set up than MO. I made the mistake of recommending MO to some people, but they had issues trying to make it work, so I will not recommend it to you."

(("You don't really need ANY mod manager for Oblivion really, all you need to do is download the mod and place the meshes/textures and or .esp file in your DATA folder")) I do this for Fallout 4, mod manually but haven't for Oblivion myself *except at the end I found that to get HGECBody to have it's textures and meshes I had to manually install them and it worked.

If BOSS it gives the error,"Cannot find online masterlist revision number." You can download the masterlist without BOSS. Then put it in your BOSS folder.

Run BOSS (not LOOT even if it's the "snapshot build" version of LOOT

If the game won't launch then run TES4edit to check for Errors
(Do Not Enable disabled Plugins in TES4edit though, that's by design for FCOM-Superpack!!) and then run BOSS (not LOOT even if it's the "snapshot build" version of LOOT
(refernce: "snapshot build" version of LOOT here:

If BOSS it gives the error,"Cannot find online masterlist revision number." You can download the masterlist without BOSS. Then put it in your BOSS folder.

Max esp/esm 255 ( Oblivion esm + 254 ) But not sure it can be that you can only add 253. If you create in game copies of objects/NPCs they have Load order number FF ( hexadecimal for 255 ).
So better only Oblivion.esm + 253 esp/esm = 254 (hex FE)
You can merge esp (all armors and clothes in one esp. Or a few esp sorted by cup size/body type)
------------------
*Run BOSS (instead of LOOT) is the Fix for All of the following:
((How do I order my Load Order to avoid errors with FCOM Superpac that I'm getting please? I followed the video but the game won't load and when I run the TES4Edit that was installed it gives a fatal error that "All Natural Base.esm" requires master "Oblivion.esm" to be loaded before it. So how do I order the plugins? I could install LOOT but when I tried that before starting FCOM Superpack with a fresh installation, LOOT was giving me errors, "Details: ios_base::failbit set: iostream stream error."
Previously I read that I had to go to %localappdata%/Oblivion which for me is at:
C:\Users\______\AppData\Local\Oblivion and right click on plugins.txt, go to properties and make sure its not on read only. But in my case it doesn't seem to be read-only. So I'm wondering what the best way to set the Load Order for this is to avoid the..))
fatal error: "'All Natural Base.esm' requires master "Oblivion.esm" to be loaded before it."

Re: LOOT error - "ios_base::badbit set: iostream stream error"
but my plugins.txt in Local AppData is not read-only which would be one possible cause.

I had been using an old version unaware. LOOT isn't in my Nexus tracking list for when it gets updated so I was on an old version 0.9.1
