Alt Tab, Game stops working?
Anyone know how to fix the issue when you tab back in and the game stops working?

Open up your task manager. Find Oblivion task and click on "Switch to". Wait a moment and click anywhere on the screen and you'll be back in the game. If it frozes while doing this, repeat the step a couple of times until it isn't frozen anymore. Also sometimes opening or closing the console will help when it freezes.

Multiple clicking on the icon in the taskbar will do the same.

You can also try running it in Windowed Mode. I've noticed that if I run it Fullscreen, Alt+tabbing causes it to crash for me. Running it windowed seemed to help :)

Just hit ESC before hitting ALT TAB. Thist puts the game in a hold an it will respond properly to the change application command. At least on my PC Win7

I'd hold off using the steam interface browser in game as well, it usually tends to crash my game, it's infuriating.

I have had this issue for years... thx for the info I'll try using Task Manager to do that...

nope "switch to" just causes Oblivion to crash like it usually does with alt-tabing... that was from the games main menu...


alt-tab seems to work ok when in game and if the game is paused using the
[escape] key.. this is on Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit...

When you alt-tab from the main menu, the game will always crash. Remember that.
