Unofficial Oblivion Patch Installation Help?
In 2013 I downloaded this patch/mod to fix some issues & bugs (must have) and it came with an exe. However, I recently downloaded the newest version and it's a zip file (manual installation). I'm usually coherent enough to understand where to put things, but instead I'm at a lost on understanding where to put certain folders.

There are, as far as I know 4 originally installed vanilla folders inside the data folder; music, textures, sound, and shaders. With the newly "installed" Unofficial Oblivion Patch, including the mod patches because I got the GOTY edition (the dlc's) there are now eight new folders; DistantLod, Meshes, OBSE, Sound, and Trees. Question is, where do I put these?

I ran this completely fine on vanilla to make sure there weren't any problems (didn't start a new game though). Assuming that all of these folders are in the right place then why do I keep crashing when the first logo comes up after starting with the Unofficial Oblivion Patch data files selected at the launch screen? The exe version of the Oblivion (outdated) worked fine without any problems.

Any help would be appreciated.

Why wouldn't you simply download the most up to date unofficial oblivion patch from the nexus that includes a self installer?
The reason for your game to crash at that point would be that you are missing files. Deactivate all mods and try to launc h the game. Also before applying any unofficial patches, you must patch your game up to date. Since the game on steam comes with the most up to date version, you shouldn't be having a problem.

The most up-to-date version of steam doesn't come with the Unofficial Oblivion Patch updates to bugs and fixes that are still current in the official update. The people behind the UOP have been working for a long time to fix everything. They advised to not use the Nexus Mod Manager.

Anyway, I figured out how to do it myself by using the OMM (Oblivion Mod Manager).

I never said that the UOP comes with steam. I just noted that steam version of the game is up to date. If you run into more problems, you could reinstall the game and then download the latest version which isn't an installer version. Using Wrye Bash ensures a safe installment. If you know how to use it. THe OBMM is good, you could stick to that, but make sure you use BOSS.

Extract the content inside the "Data" folder, that's it. Also make sure to use the proper order of the ESP files using Oblivion Mod Manager.
