Spell tome issue
So i got all of the dlc, and i wanted to buy spells so i traveled to two different mages guild halls, and neither of them had a trainer or spell vendor available. the wiki claimed that the people there sell them but i had no luck. if anyone knows what is up with this help me out please.

I believe that some items sold by vendors vary according to what level you are. I have played Oblivion quite a bit (hundreds of hours) with the spell tomes dlc installed and I got my spell tomes elsewhere in the world as loot. I am not sure what level you have to be in order to find them in the mage guilds.

is there anywhere i can start looking for tomes? finding them in the wild isnt as concrete as buying ones you like to use in my opinion

The wiki I read says wherever you find spell scrolls as loot there is a one-in-four chance that you will find a tome instead, so places that magic users hang (rogue conjurer and necromancer lairs being two examples) are the best places to find spell tomes. I have also found them in bandit and creature lairs as well.

I did some further wiki digging and found that it is in fact Skyrim that has vendors that sell spell tomes, not Oblivion.

Though if you don't mind a bit of cheating I found an article that gives the ID of each tome, so you can add them to your inventory with the console.

What spell vendors did you visit? BarbarianHeart is incorrect; spells that are far beyond your ability to cast will still show up in the inventory.

However, a number of vendors have very specific schedules of when and where they are actually "open for business." Look at UESP's page of Oblivion Spells, there's a listing of who sells which spells; just click a person's individual page to see what their hours are.

We were talking about spell tomes, not just spells. Or at least that is what I was talking about. Ed is correct about being able to buy regular spells. The spell tomes are extra spells added by the dlc Spell Tome Treasures, not the only way to get spells in the game.

Well, the original post was asking about spell vendors, while tomes are random-loot-only. :) I agree the thread is kind of confusing on that note though.

These zones have a 50% chance of finding spell tomes in the boss containers.
