But you can handle some console command.
I can tell some more information to meet Raynil.
You must Enable him (because he has been disabled)
And resurrect him.
go to console mode ----------
prid "Ref-ID"
enable
resurrect 1
moveto player
-----------------------------------
But to meet him again might not help to complete Quest you failed.
After I posted here, I noticed that I was meant to go right away. The notification didn't pop up, or I missed it somehow. I always have several quests in progress, so I just went on to another one after speaking to the guard about Raynil. At least I'll know for my next playthrough.
I guess I'm not going to stress about it. There was a nice potion in one of the chests. I don't remember the name of it, but it's over 2,000 gold if you buy it from any merchant (strong spell reflection or absorption?) even when their disposition is 100. Ha! I'm a Master Alchemist, but no one pays me that much for any of my potions. Guess it's not too bad that I failed the quest after all. (I was a bit sad when I had to tell Bradon's wife that Raynil escaped.)
I couldn't find my save, and I'd already gone clear across the map by the time this all happened. Thanks again. :-)
