Yet another "grey screen" problem
Hi,

I'm encountering a weird version of the infamous "gray screen" bug and I'm hoping someone here could help me out.

After playing for a couple of hours on maxed out graphics settings my game suddenly turns gray. Since I'm new to the game I don't pay that much attention to it thinking maybe this is how evenings or nights are supposed to look inside the game. After playing for a while more though I notice that everything is gray even inside houses and caves. The compass, lifebars and menus are all unaffected, but everthing else in the game is now gray.

This bug seems to be specific to the save file. If I start a new game or load a save file from before everything turned gray, it all looks fine again. Also, in the save file where the game is gray, if I go to jail I have colors again. Sleeping or skipping to another location with the map doesn't help though.

I'm playing on a Windows 7 Home Edition with an AMD Radeon HD 5000 graphics card.

So far I've tried turning my graphics settings to as low as possible (including turning HDR and Bloom off, AA off and running on as low resolution as the game allows) without any success. I've also tried deleting the Oblivion.ini-file from the Users-folder.

Any ideas?

Hey, I remember having a somewhat similar problem. It could just be your memory. Oblivion is a very demanding game in that regard. Whenever it starts to turn grey and such, just restart your computer. Playing for several hours at a time causes all sorts of interesting bugs.

Yes game has a memory leak but this couldalso be the NVIDIA screen bug. google for help if you have NVIDIA card.

That's really strange, I've been playing the game for over 100 hours on Win7 64-bit Home Premium with my AMD Radeon HD 7750 with 1 GB DDR5, and never found a glitch like that. If it helps, I'm using these plugins and patches:

4GB Patch (not a plugin, but modifies the main EXE to use over 4 GB of RAM)

Oblivion Script Extender

Oblivion Stutter Remover

Unofficial Oblivion Patch

Unofficial Shivering Isles Patch

Unofficial Official Mods Patch

plus, a ton of mods for visual improvement, armors, weapons, skins... with Oblivion Mod Manager: http://www.nexusmods.com/oblivion/mods/2097/

I loaded an earlier save file and after 30+ hours of playing the bug hasn't occured again. I guess whatever is the reason behind the corrupted save file doesn't happen that often.

Thank you all for your advice and if it occurs again I'll try that 4 GB Patch :)
