My strategy for Oblivion and Skyrim is I try to visit all nearby unvisited locations to the cities early in the game so I can fast travel to them later. I discovered around 370 locations without playing SI yet and when NPCs ask for something from a specific dungeon I fast travel there. So in short yes. I use it and very often.

I use fast travel when I'm playing Daggerfall, but I don't see much point in it for Oblivion or Skyrim (and Morrowind doesn't have it). Most of the fun of these games is in the exploration for me.
I usually don't in Oblivion to add to the immersion. I do it all the time in Skyrim tho

I use fast travel alot. I'm an older player and don't have alot of time to waste on riding or running everywhere for immersion.

This game is very time consuming as is, requiring hundreds of hours to play.

In some cases I will even use console to teleport to a specific NPC to save time.

I think about when i was young and how much of my time I wasted playing those older RPG's like the Dragon Warrior series, Kingsfield, Final Fantasy, Fantasy Star etc. where walking around sucked hours of your life away because of how slow travelling in those games were.

Sure I enjoyed those games, but omg so much precious time wasted travelling and exploring.

I can't invest as much time playing games like i did when I was young, but I still love the genre so I like to be able to do so at a faster pace.

Hm, one mod added travel like a Morrowind and delete fast travel. Good to rpg-fans.
Link please
I'm ready to download it :D

Do I use fast travel, Yes and No.
I have my oblivion game set up under two folders. One I use for screen shots that I then post at Nexusmods.com. The other I use when I find some new DLC like mod I wish to try. This one includeds a mod from theengineeringguild.co.uk which removed fast travel from the game.

Dood, are you for real ? Sure it takes time but it's kinda worth it.
Only fast travel unless you have to, you miss out on ALOT of stuff just fast traveling from place to place. There are alot of caves, huts, plants, chest, etc. You miss ALOT just fast traveling. Unless you really have to, I just end up walking. While it does take time, at least it doesn't take too long to get around, worse comes to worse, get a horse. Or better yet, boost up your speed and just fly through the map lol.

Again you miss so ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ much trying to rush through the game trying to complete it. Elder Scrolls are one of those games where your meant to take your time and admire your surroundings... and pickpocket everyone person you see... then stuff all their belongings into barrels right outside their house. Why? Because, that's why.

There is a mod called Map Marker Overhaul that allows you to set markers on the map, it can also disable fast-travel.

When you fast-travel you miss lots of stuff.

Hmmm it depends, really. Like if it's a simple errand-boy literally-only-two-or-three-stages quest, I usually do, but if it's something more..uhh "plot-driven," then I usually just run over to my destination for sake of immersion or suspense. Just yesterday, as a matter of fact, I was doing a certain quest that I knew was gonna turn sour. But I didn't fast-travel because I wanted to build up suspense. It did take its effect of strong emotion on me, even though the destination was, like, literally on the other side of the map, but I find this habit most favorable for me.
It may be tedious and annoying coming across bears, trolls, Spriggans, or a combination of all three every now and then, but, I think it's worth it. More or less. ^^;

I am an older gamer also. I walk everywhere. I almost never use fast travel. Time exploring is not wasted time. It is quality time.

I tend to be in the middle on this. I have a tendency to not completely avoid fast travel, but at the same time I keep it limited, to only between the town stables at the major cities. From there I tend to travel on foot. I also make myself travel to the towns initally (thou you could fast travel between them from the start.)
