I could not get the controller remapping to work for the life of me because no matter what I assigned the buttons to in the 3rd party app, the controls would not work right in game, like I was doing two actions at once and it was driving me insane.
but once I read this little bit
that made all the damn difference. I was completely under the impression this game had no controller support what so ever and thought it was steam that was doing something with its built in controller support and was trying all kinds of things and none of it would work.
Little did I know, it was the damn game itself with its own build in controller support.
Now i can map the controls how I want with 3rd party controller software without interference from the in game controller mappings. Now I can finally play this game after all this time.
Googling around for solutions brought me to this page and even tho this post is years old, it goes to show how this information can help those in the future, like me. Thanks my dude.
There's a mod that does this so much more easily, without any of the setting up that the way you just shared requires. Here: https://www.nexusmods.com/oblivion/mods/48577?tab=files
just be sure top select the vanilla version and it doesn't touch the UI only adds their bug fixes and game-pad support. Hope this helps those who find this kind of thing stressful.
