The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Game of the Year Edition (2009)

NOSTALGIA from gen X
I was in absolutely nostalgia land for awhile playing the opening up to the first oblivion gate last night, what a trip. Playing with the chains in your cell, that jerk face across the hall, I was remembering stuff I totally forgot from 20 years ago.. what a trip.. it felt surreal.

Even just looking at steps and the environment how insanely detailed the most mundane things are. Being Gen X and starting with square boxes on Atari and then 8 bit, 16 bit, 32..64.. etc and the leaps and bounds for awhile. Once 3D hit, after some time it felt like the scene went stagnant for some decade(s) with some games coming out looking worse than 10 years earlier.. no more leaps an bounds in improvement. I'm glad to see URE5 visuals fidelity in my life time, the stability will be improved, its a huge milestone.

To me the next big leap in gaming and a future oblivion remake will feature AI powered NPCs and gaming systems where everything down to paper cuts are procedural-ly generated. Hopefully I wont have heart attack or lose interest in games before we get there, they need to figure out super position and pocket sized AI first I suppose, can't keep commissioning new power plants just to run AI as-is.
