The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Game of the Year Edition (2009)

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Game of the Year Edition (2009)

Remaster worth it?
As a big fan of Oblivion, I want to get the remaster, but might just revisit this until it becomes cheaper. Tempting to buy the remaster, but the OG one is still amazing. What do you guys think? Let me know. :)

If you don't have a top end GPU, I would wait. I played this game on top end GPUs at work and it was BAD!!!!

I read it's only bad because of DLSS. If you play the remaster at Native you shouldn't have any issues.

The game is good. I was never really one for mods so the lack of mods doesn't really impact me but apparently there are mods anyway that people have introduced already it's just not "officially" supported.

Well worth it and a worthy upgrade to the original. Graphics look great and the game runs really well for an UE5 game but it's mostly still Gamebryo with graphics powered by UE5.
If you dont get angry about Type 1 , Type 2 genders , then yeah it is a nice looking game

I read, that the devs from the oblivion remaster used a dx12 RT wrapper to run the game with modern tech. its not even a real remake.

three things

Whats your rig? if you have a great pc that has a 6 gb of memory video card you should be fine if not wait, update your software

second wait for patches for the remaster day one buys are a no no until performance is fixed (seeing thats the major issue many are having)

third if you dont have a pc that can run it my suggestion would be to download this and go wild with mods, (particularly the last seed one) and skyblivion is coming too either way.

It's good. There are small differences but the core game is preserved, it mostly plays like the original with a nice facelift. It keeps a lot of the derpy stuff which sounds bad, but to me means it feels like Oblivion, which it is.

DLSS is broken on it for some reason, performs badly and looks bad in places. Switching it off is better, and using FSR instead gives much better (>2x) fps for me.

The down side is there is stutter in outside areas, and if you have a modest card you may end up turning the settings down a bit. Someone pointed me to a mod on the nexus (https://www.nexusmods.com/oblivionremastered/mods/35) that purports to mitigate the stutter, but I haven't tried it yet as disabling DLSS bought me a decent performance boost.

As for whether it's worth it - well it's on game pass (this is how I'm playing it) and a month of game pass is a hell of a lot cheaper than the RRP of the game, so you could try it out and decide for yourself that way.

Welp it's not perfect, but my rig has ryzen 3600, 1070ti, 16GB ram. Got 2 SSDS and 1TB HDD. Hoping to just go full SSD soon. Mid tier rig overall. Gotta fork out money for certain upgrades, but yeah I'm rolling with it for now lol. :D
Its teh exact same game and looks prettier so how important are graphics
most of them look alright but the arena fan looks ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up
I have a ryzen 7 3700 and a 2060 8gb you think im good?
i'll probably stick to the original for now get it on sale

Thats just poor optimisation. you probably play it all maxed out, poor performance is 100% the standard in ANY new released game. every game plays way better after some time and a bunch of patches. Do you have any idea how oblivion performed back in the days without any mod?

True. That's why i said I would wait. It may get cheaper too.

Looks amazing on a 4090 4K though. Unfortunately I don't have that level of GPU on my PC.

Unlikely, according to what I read elsewhere (example: leveling system).

all they did was make minor skills add a small amount to level so you dont get capped by your major skills (so you dont have to do the jail exploit) thats a really small change, i guess maybe i shouldnt have used the word EXACT

Not worth it. At all.
