The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Game of the Year Edition (2009)

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Game of the Year Edition (2009)

Oblivion Remaster
If it's real, it's said to be published on the 21st this month.
Though it's called a remaster, sorces suggest it's made with the new engine and combat is tweaked as well

What are your thoughts on the rummors and would you pay for it? If so, what max amount?

If it isn't mod friendly, I won't pay a dime.

I doubt they'd make it not mod friendly. That said, it will likely take a while to actually see the mods rolling. That's part of the reason why i didn't buy skyrim se right away. However, i don't think oblivion needs much in term of mods if graphics and combat/some gameplay elements are improved upon. The ones that need to be anyhow, i'm a bit worried they'd try to strip away the complex rp mechanics and make it more like skyrim, though. Since it looks very much re-built.

To answer my own question: Currently thinking around 40e, but it depends of what i see of it after release, from people who bought it before me.

I very much doubt they will make it have Skyrim's system, people wouldn't be happy and a lot of refunds would happen. As for your first point, that's perspective. I play with OOO, and a long list of other mods that make significant changes. Quests, locations, hundreds of pieces of gear added to the leveled lists, added enemy variety, more than I can think to list. Whatever they put out is going to be significantly closer to vanilla than my setup is, functionally. If the only edge it has is graphics, I may not buy it at all.

I am in the wait and see camp. I am all for older games being ported into newer engines but Oblivion definitely has some serious flaws that would need to be addressed. The limited number of voice actors and the level scaling system being the most prominent. I know there are a lot of mods that address that for the creation engine version so if they work with the remaster I could see an investment otherwise it is unlikely. I would probably price it around $30 if I was the publisher but I could see them pricing it the same as a new release at $60-$70 which I will definitely pass on.

The limited voice acting isn't that bad of a problem, and easily addressed with AI if they wanted.

But the voice acting was funny, bruma especially because basically everyone there are nords so it's the same voice actor talking to eachother.

It had its charm for awhile but not to long of hearing the same person talk to themselves about how they hate mud crabs.

I think you are correct on the use of AI but it does take time so possible they skipped it. If it is an overlay of UE5 handling the graphics while the creation engine handles the game play it would have the same janky issues it had on release. That path could lend itself to an ease of mod use though which can solve a lot of the problems in vanilla.
16 times the 4 dollars for base, 16 times the 5 dollars for the deluxe

I'm interested. The original is an obsolete piece of garbage and I never played it, so this will be my first time going through Oblivion. Quite hyped.
So what time will Oblivion remastered releasing on 21st if the leaks are right?

10 AM seems to be a common release time so I will throw that in as my guess.

If it happens probably around 2pm EST so everybody is awake

200 bucks says howard, it just works
If it's not on Steam, and/or not modable, I'm out.
I ain't gonna pay for something just to be 'shinier'. My old copy still works just fine, and I played it just a few days ago.
