The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Game of the Year Edition (2009)

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Game of the Year Edition (2009)

so whats the chances the remaster will break mods for this game somehow?
will they throw out a meaningless exe update or perhaps even put a custom launcher for there games like alot of other AAA devs have done.

i think its a 90% chance my modlist will break.

They'd probably sooner pull Oblivion from the store than update it simply to break mods

The bigger question is will current mods even work on this remaster at all? Obviously visual mods will be game breaking. But game-play dynamics mods will hopefully still work (i.e. OOO).

skyrim mods didnt even work when they made the engine 64 bit over the og 32 bit heck i think they broke mods with the anniversary edition on skyrim. i dont think people know who they are dealing with in bethesda.

they will update the original games exe to break the script extender, knowing there teams will be working on a new one for oblivion remaster. bethesda has never not broken mods.

About 200%
If you're worried, just protect your game from updating by setting the app manifest file to read only.

i hadnt heard of that befor. i googled it and done it. hopefully i can rest easy. my current oblivion modlist is like 200 mods. the combined effort of over a decade of elderscrolls modding fails and it works 100% of the time 50% of the time. its my mona lisa of modlists

Unfortunately OOO does make a fairly significant amount of visual changes. All the custom enemies come to mind immediately. There's zero chance OOO will work with it, but maybe we are given the means to remake a lot of those mods.

I can still play original skyrim with a mod list from 2012, I have redundant backups of enough things. Same for Oblivion. Even if they tried, there will never be anything they can do to prevent me from playing with my exact mod setup in Oblivion. Time will tell in term of how modding plays out with the remaster.

It will probably be a separate game on Steam, that is if it is real.
It should be a separate game. It's a fully remake on a different engine (UE5). No worry.

the game is rumored to be a hybrid engine of UE5 and the original gamebryo engine, so OG mods could theoretically work with it but i wouldn't take the chance. wait for an official port by the mod author cuz any other way the unreal part of the engine may reject it like a botched organ transplant :(
I am not even sure that it will be possible to mod it.
I am assuming (from half information in the interwebs) that they will use OG Oblivion (creation engine/gamebryo) with UE just for graphics. In that case mods will work - and it is even possible that existing mods will continue to work (obviously not mods for things that the remaster changed).
If they used a newer version of creation engine it will be possible to mod, but existing mods will not work at all.
But right now we don't even know if it will use creation engine at all.

My mods work just fine. Dunno why people are complaining about the Next Gen Patch for Morrowind.
