The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Game of the Year Edition (2009)

Why do cure disease potions not work on any diseases?
Title

I'm not talking about vampirism. I'm talking about ANY disease. I have never successfully cured a single disease with anything other than an alter during the entire time I've played the game, and I'm level 17 now.

Are all the cure disease mechanics just a scam in this game? Or do I need to use like 20 potions to cure some random thing a rat gave me?

They have always worked for me, in fact just used one succesfully this morning.
Are you sure you did not just have damaged attributes and no disease?

Hmm no from a rat that wont be the case.
Maybe a mod thats causing a problem?

I'm not running any mods, just the base game from Steam.

Fairly sure I've closed the stat sheet and rechecked, but I'll ensure I've tried that the next time something randomly gives me a disease.

If it was your stats that got hit, you may have to go to a temple this time of game.
Exactly, damaged stats can come from creatures or spells/mahical weapons without it being a disease. You can always check what the cause is under the currect effects tab. If its from a disease it will state it.
Otherwise a cure disease potion wont give you back your stats and you need a blessing

Well, blood lung is definitely a disease, and so have some of the other things that have been listed that I've tried to cure.

I KNOW it's diseases. That isn't the issue. Stat drain effects are clearly indicated by it 1) telling you it's getting drained, 2) the debuff in the corner of your screen, 3) the color your character starts flashing.

Diseases give you a message saying you've contracted a disease. The problem is that 4 potions later, I still am listed as having the debuffs with (insert disease here) in their tooltips.

They're not talking about stat drains.

There's another effect called DAMAGED stats. What it does is permanently debuffs your stats when hit with those (a will o the wisp for example can damage both your intelligence and willpower permanently).
When that happens, there's nothing that indicates it and there's no active effect. The only way to cure it is with a restore attribute potion or spell or a shrine.

That being said you've gone further to say it's actually diseases themselves you can see the effects of and name of disease. Those should be cured by cure disease spells 100% of the time. I've never had those not cure a disease on multiple platforms.

Sounds like a bug. do you have mods?

Again, no, I'm just running the game as downloaded from Steam. No mods, and no patches other than what was incorporated into whatever Steam gives you by default.
Cure Disease works for me for everything but Felldew addiction and vampirism lol, with or without mods and plug-ins

Maybe start a new save file and see if it works on there. If it does, then there is probably something wrong with your original save file
