The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Game of the Year Edition (2009)

useless scam
buy a game on steam that doesnt work and is an absolute scam, good job bethesda and steam for being completely uncapable of putting a game on your market without making it unplayable, dont waste your money on this scam, all the idiots who just blame it on hardware or mods are absolute incel basement dwellers guessing issues, $1400 dollar pc with rtx 4070 wont start and have literally never made it 25 minutes into the game or downloaded a single mod ever in my life for it but regardless download it for free on xbox or buy it on steam wither way this useless steaming pile of crap is still a not working scam

I play it on a laptop with no mods or adjustments and it's perfectly fine.

win10, 3080.
1,5 hours in.
not a single issue.
This on sale is literally 20 times cheaper and better than the actual scams coming out of Game Studio and even Bethesda nowadays...imo the classical design and stories far outweigh the clunky aspect of it.

Win10, mid-level computer, no mods. Works like a charm. 200+ hrs.

Works for millions. Something in pc software is the most likely cause.
I recently reinstalled and played several hours before doing some light modding. No issues. Instead of rage-posting wouldn't it just be easier to put that energy into figuring out your problem?

Update your video card drivers.
Re-verify files if need-be.
If you are completely vanilla and no mods then click 'Data Files' on the Launcher and make sure everything is checked. Alternatively you can try and uncheck everything save for Oblivion.esm and see if it still crashes.

I just checked PC Gaming Wiki and there''s no indication there's a problem with Windows 11 if you're on that OS, but that reminds me, if you installed Steam under Program Files consider moving it to another folder or another drive preferably because programs under Program Files always require Admin privileges and that can cause problems for games being installed or running via Steam in that folder.

Hopefully you can fix it.

Only reason I can't currently play it is because the "D" key on my keyboard is broken. That's the ONLY reason. In other words, it's your computer, OP.

congratulations on all the incompetent basement dwellers who read the part about them and still made their presence known, a two second look at the discussion page will show you every other post about the game not working, "works for millions" also doesnt work for millions, valden you literally dont digest air into your brain go the the hospital because im pretty sure youre a dead body
I have the same issue here I have ran this game as an administrator, compatibility mode for all windows's, with and without screen optimization, checked and unchecked all data files except for the main game, installed directX9 and validated my game files. 13700k, 4070ti, windows 11 but can't run the game.

Complains a 20 year old game wont work on modern hardware refuses to find the simple fix yet its bethesda's problem what an absolute entitled clown

yes, it's bethesda's fault they didn't write a game in 2008 to account for microsoft making 4 new windows versions and countless drivers updating

Imagine being the same embarassing clown blaming it on intel CPUS HAHA XD , the basement dweller incel part applies to you btw, being called an entitled brat by a loser on steam after spending MY MONEY on a game during 2025 where every single game we buy we have to fix the games ourselves just to play them because developers are at an all time low and cant make a game work, keep getting mad because people dont want to fix your favorite little game you and all your boyfriends play
