The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Game of the Year Edition (2009)

Oblivion Remake
What's people though's on the official remake that might come out this year? If it even exists which I think it does.
I'm about even on it, has a lot of chance to improve, but also a lot to make it worse.

I'd pick useless attributes over no attributes. I don't think Skyrim's perk system fixes anything, it makes no sense and breaks immersion by not even trying to mimic actual human abilities and skill development. It resembles abstract upgrade systems from mobile games, you become stronger by buying shiny stars for points and skill level itself doesn't mean anything.

Oblivion already is no attributes. There's no visible difference in damage from the lowest possible strength to the highest possible strength. The only attribute that does anything impactful is endurance and intelligence for casters only, and the perks in Skyrim do the same but without having to min max or worry about modifiers to increase them.

Yeah it's less realistic but the way strength was implemented in oblivion made it completely useless. You could remove the attributes from oblivion completely and the game would play the same. Every other system in oblivion was game -ey and not trying to replicate real life, that's why the world revolves around you and every dungeon is imps at level 1. Even the new vampire system makes no sense from a realism view, it's built entirely as a game mechanic and works backwards to how it should (Skyrim's is the same so I'm not praising it there either).

Skyrim while also game-ey allows you to build vastly different characters even if their skills are the same using the perk system.
All of what the attributes do in oblivion (except movement speed) are able to be upgraded and manipulated through the perks.
Sure many of the perks do very little and simply mimic what an attribute would do (like the boost damage perks) but honestly it's better than whatever oblivion gave us, and I'd prefer the slight boost to damage perks over extremely impactful instant gratification perks anyway. Skyrim managed to still have a slow progression with their perk system.

The perk system of Skyrim could definitely be better implemented and planned out, but it's still better than oblivions no attributes do anything approach.

This has always been my issue with Skyblivion or Skywind or Morrowblivion before either of those. It's literally the game engine that makes Morrowind and Oblivion so much fun. In fact, I still play Morrowind because even though the quests are kind of weak (I have yet to find any that aren't just fetch quests) the game is a true RPG and gives me a solid sense of progression. Without mods Skyrim, and to a lesser extent Oblivion, become too easy. And with leveled lists Oblivion especially becomes sort of silly: "Give me 100 gold to pass" , bro, your Ebony armor is worth 10,000 gold. But I will say this about Oblivion: Some of the best quest design I've seen in a game. I'm currently working on the Dark Brotherhood questline and every mission is S Tier.

To me oblivion is the worst elder scrolls and it mostly comes down to the systems. The watered down and useless attributes, the Abysmal world scaling, useless stamina, the design of not allowing the player to find unique or good stuff at low levels or run into strong enemies (every dungeon at level 2 is imps and rats, bandits in fur or Marauders in iron, stunted scamps, etc). Every piece of loot lying in the world (not in a leveled chest) is iron or steel because god forbid the player find something before they're supposed to.
The combat was also boiled down to smacking enemies 50 times over creating essentially the same result as morrowind except in morrowind you eventually get better and it takes less smacks where in oblivion it does the opposite. This also resulted in a near broken armourer/equipment decay system.

Even the enchanting was dumbed down to try and "balance" the game like it's some kind of bland MMO.
The other big factor is the world is procedurally generated slop, and just one giant flat bowl where you can walk in a straight line from any location to any other location without terrain getting in your way.

Morroblivion was an absolute abomination because it took out all the good mechanics of morrowind and replaced them with the ♥♥♥♥ mechanics of oblivion.

However Skyrim was an improvement on almost every aspect over oblivion when it comes to the game systems. Stamina is useful again, all crafting was improved upon, the level scaling is actually pretty decent, and while attributes were removed they were reduced to garbage in oblivion and Skyrim found a new way for character advancement that essentially fixed all the problems with oblivions attributes.
Enemy detection is way better in Skyrim, instead of oblivion where you get detected at the beginning of the dungeon and if there's a floor above or below you, those enemies will be alerted and you'll have the whole dungeon on you at the beginning.

So to me, oblivion in Skyrim's engine with Skyrim's systems is an improvement in every way, and can make oblivion an actually replayable game that I'll enjoy once again. I've got no interest in a Bethesda lazy ai upscaled oblivion if it's going to keep all the systems that made oblivion ♥♥♥♥♥♥ to begin with.

I don't see anything redeemable with oblivions engine or systems except spell making which is again a watered down version of morrowind. Oblivion tried way too hard to over balance everything and restricted the player's freedom by doing so. Even Skyrim allows you to break the game and become a god akin to morrowind if you do desire. But oblivion is built to specifically stop that type of behavior, creating a very mediocre and bland experience doing so. Like I said before, it feels like a really bland over balanced MMO.
You make a lot of good points. I agree especially with the enemy level scaling and the way the player levels up.

I don’t want a soulless third party remake with dark souls combat. It sounds awful. Each tes game has its own unique art direction and feel based on the time it was made and people making it. This would just suck the soul right out of it especially adding dawgy doo doo souls combat

If its an equivalent to Skyrim Special Edition, it will be good......but you'll have to wait for mods. It will be nice to have proper controller support without mods and who knows, maybe they'll make it easy to mod and create for it. Then it would be cool.
who knows though, and don't hold your breath for it....

A remaster I’m down for a full complete third party remake like the demon souls remake I do not want

Just overhaul the faces, take the Skyrim design and import it to Oblivion. That's a crucial part for me.
What’s what skyblivion is for 🤷🏻‍♂️

What is this Skyblivion love all about there? We getting official Remake but everyone saying this fan mode. In My Opinion; Official Product (Bethesda Support) > Fan Mode Product. All the time.

I don't want Skyrim Engine in Oblivion. I want to taste Oblivion only. (With Remake/Remaster)

That Fan Mode will get less attention when the Bethesda Remake comes out anyway.

The problem is the remake is in UE5 not Bethesda’s Creation Engine and UE5 may be modable but nowhere near as modable as the Creation Engine. And the leaks for the remake don’t even look half as good as the Rudy CW ENB presets. Skyblivion, on the other hand, is a conversion mod for Skyrim (like Enderal), so Skyrim mods should mostly be compatible and those that aren’t can easily be modified to work properly.
That’s just on the modding side. The gameplay itself is being changed to lean more towards a souls like game and I highly doubt Bethesda will go through the trouble to try to give every item its own object permanence which is something that use to define Bethesda games.
Overall, it just isn’t going to be the same game. The combat will be different and there will be a major lack of mod support comparatively. Even without the mod support, they are changing the actual combat system and gameplay making it a very different game, even if the story is the same.
Honestly, Bethesda’s Creation Engine is one of the greatest engines created for open world RPGs. The way each item and NPC has its own permanence and physics is what made Bethesda games so unique. I’m sure they could replicate it to some extent in UE5 but not well. They should have just stuck with Creation Engine and added support for ENB. The graphics alone would have turned out twice as good as what the leaks show.

i want to believe that its real and i want to believe that its a GOOD and WELL CONSTRUCTED remaster. the game needs it and i would think that skyblivion makes Oblivion run under Skyrim so i dont want to add hours to skyrim when im playing oblivion. thats what i had an issue with for Skywind/Morrowblivion

What I don't know is what this means for modders.
Most likely, it will have creation club support & extra paid mod/DLC added, which will be a boon for consoles at least, especially Xbox since they allow more variety of mods than Playstation does.
Creation Club won’t be supported. Bethesda’s Creation Engine is the game engine Skyrim uses and is very unique in its modding capabilities. It’s easier to mod and you can do ALOT more with your mods. Not a single mod currently on Creation Club will be compatible and most mod creators aren’t going to even try to see if it’s possible to convert their mods when they can just play Skyblivion instead. Honestly the leaks don’t even look half as good as a decent ENB preset.

I think it doesn't exist, and on the low chance that it does exist, it'll just be a lazy port made for consoles, the PC version running at highest settings, maybe with 4k support.

Certainly won't be a remake running on Unreal Engine and featuring soulslike combat, and whatever else the ''leaks'' said.
This has not aged well.

I'm excited.
If it's called REMASTERED, I wonder if I can play it in UE5. If not, then in the Cloud.
The game needs a remake, a remastered version, and I have many opinions on it, including my review and complete walkthrough, three years ago.
Because of "Skyblivion," many people have also sensibly expressed the need for a remake, a remastered version.

First of all, it has to be at least as good as Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2018, in terms of water, meadows, and forests.

I'm happy about a Chinese cookie cutter. I'm currently playing and immersed in the Chinese game "Stormshot 2023." So, Chinese people know cookie cutters.

I'd like to see und feel "Cyrodiil" MORE as a metaphorically told history of the wiki/Byzantine_Empire, So as Turkish history before Islam. And the Venice Italians, metaphorically as the "Deadra"...

Let's look at the big picture a moment:

Bethesda releases Morrowind on Consoles and becomes a Consoles first company but declares to us and states it's always gonna be a PC first Developer because that's where it first started and is comfortable. Money rolls in on the Console express; Hallelujah! The console is King now.

Todd has stated in the past how well Skyrim has sold on Consoles and especially on the Switch.

When asked in an interview around Starfield release Todd stated that he "gets asked" for an Oblivion Remaster and Fallout 3 Remaster a lot. This is what you call a hint my humans. Personally, I'd rather see a Morrowind or Daggerfall "Modernized" edition. Oh, well.

Rumors of an imminent Oblivion Remaster announcement to drop around the Time of Switch 2 reveal.

Switch 2 Reveal and every game made in the last 5 years that sold well is getting a port to it in glorious modern 4k or at least 1080p along with the announced first party titles.

Eagerly awaiting the stand alone Switch 2 game announcements. Xenoblade X2 please, Not gonna stand in line for Janky Kong. Monolith soft surly will announce something very soon in trailer form, yes? Maybe a new Fire Emblem, too? *Poke, poke"?

Hold on. Rumors that Oblivion gets announced real soon™. Probably coincides with Switch 2 methinks. Hype-Boner extends.

Tariff Nonsense.

Nintendo cancels the windup. Rethinks money. Nintendo breaks out the calculators.

Flagship and big announcements put on hold until Nintendo refines the plan.

Goes to hospital for a shunt for my priapism.

I used to drive up to Canada for cheap smokes and Alcohol during the prohibition.

Gonna do it for food, medicine, and games now.

Oblivion announce soon???

It's still mostly accurate comment. It's not a remake, it's a remaster that runs on gamebryo and only uses unreal for graphics rendering. It doesn't have souls like combat or anything else like that.
