The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Game of the Year Edition (2009)

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Game of the Year Edition (2009)

With official remake getting out are they going to cancel skyblivion?
Would be a shame to lose it and get another generic UE4-5 game instead.

Even if remake rumors aren't fake I see no reason to cancel skyblivion. They have nothing to do with each other, essentially skyblivion is just another mod for Skyrim

Bethesda bread and butter is Mods. i find it highly unlikely at this point that they would issue a take down. however if they want to sell their own remake the will probably consider it to kill any competition

There's only one leaked document from almost 2 years ago that said it was a remaster, not a remake. Skyblivion is a remake. A remaster is like Skyrim special edition, same game but with higher resolution options,on 64 bit so more ram usage, and some god rays. That's what you can expect from an official remaster if it's even real. Just an excuse to resell the game at or near new prices for new consoles.

I just hope whoever is behind Skyblivion isn't depressed because of the official release getting out.

Tbh I don't get the distinction between remaster and remake and could never remember the difference and where the line is drawn. I wonder who even came up with it. Each developer is marketing these things differently and decides how much is gonna be changed anyway.

A remaster is taking already existing game, and touching it up or porting it to a new engine. Skyrim special edition is a remaster of Skyrim. The newer release of red dead redemption 1 was a remaster. They're usually just the identical game being released on newer consoles and try to utilize the newer technology (usually in the form of resolutions and ram usage). A remaster very rarely has anything new added to it. The old Baldur's Gate 1 and 2 remaster added a couple companions that aren't in the original game, but that's typically very rare among remasters.

A remake is literally remaking a game from the ground up. The resident evil 2, 3 and 4 remakes are remakes.
Skywind, morroblivion and skyblivion are remakes, where they're recreating the previous games in the new engine.

A remake takes considerably more work than a remaster. A remake is making a new game altogether, and really only reusing story and quests/writing. Sometimes they'll reuse sound effects and voice acting, but usually those are redone from the ground up especially voice acting because of quality and rights to those voice files. But basically you're making an entirely new game and just reusing writing.

The distinction is pretty easy to tell.

So how many gigabytes of ♥♥♥♥ can you add before a remaster will turn into a remake? Or new content on top of old unchanged stuff doesn't count?

Yeah you'd probably start blurring the lines if you're adding a bunch more stuff, but I'd still say it's a remaster or expansion than a remake. And thing is I haven't heard of any remaster add a bunch of new stuff, like the Baldur's Gate with a couple more companions is about the extent I've seen. Remasters typically don't add much to the original game beyond a bonus quest here or there or a new camera angle option or easy mode or survival mode option or something.
