Oblivion keeps freezing; Help

I really wanna play this game, but the game keeps freezing around 3 minutes into a session. The game will just keep going but i can't open the menu access steam overlay or use any in game functions. Any help would mean the world.

Im currently running it on windows 7, with intel i5, nvidia gtx 770 and 8 gb of ram. (if I need to post more information let me know, i really want to get this fixed so i can play)

That's a real bummer, I don't know if anything I say will really help but nobody else has commented so I felt that someone should step in. I don't have any guaranteed solutions, but here's a list of basic fixes you could try.

-Restart Steam (You've probably done this, but it's worth putting on here.)

-Reinstall the game (Another obvious fix, but it could work.)

-Lower the graphics settings

-In the launcher, change the game from Fullscreen to Windowed.

Have you tried to see if console commands work? One time my game froze during character creation and it seemed like I couldn't do anything until I pressed the "~" key next to "1." If a little cursor for writing text appears in the bottom left, this means that console commands work. When mine froze I entered "quitgame" and relaunched and it worked fine. Sorry again that I don't have anything more specific.

A similar thing happened to me with Fallout 3. Using an ini tweak to enable multithreading fixed that, so it may work for Oblivion as well. Look at this[www.uesp.net] article, but make sure you have a backup of the Oblivion.ini file.

Maybe want to try a RAM booster, which allows Oblivion to run with more RAM than it is meant to. I used http://www.nexusmods.com/oblivion/mods/32405/? I had enjoyed the game for weeks then all of a sudden it wouldn't start, even with a fresh install. Don't know why I had this problem weeks after playing, but after using that program it runs waaaayyy better with almost no crashes.

Does this happen on a new game?
