Or you could do what I do, make up your own story for the hero of kvatch,
but it's probably because you started playing skyrim now you dont really like oblivion, I did the same but after playing around with some mods and other things I just started to get more invested into the game and started playing it a bit more and I did have more fun exploring and paying more attention to details than in skyrim, but thats mostly because of the oblivion gates and SOME interesting characters and quests (skyrim obviously has way more).
So just try modding if you did'nt already and try slowing down the pace, don't try to just rush thought quests to complete them and get the reward.
i did try mods and i just can't find anything fun to do :P apart from as you said kill everyone.
But if this is of no help just play skyrim until you reach 3300 hours and there is no longer a thing that is not the dragonborn and all of the dungeons are cleared and the only thing left to do is the endless dark brotherhood quests
i hate how bright oblivion is i like the dull snowy look of skyrim :P
I guess the game simply didn't age well, but back then it was like "Wow Oblivion". Gotta give em credit they made a pretty complex game for the time.
yeah i find it more boring then skyrims haha
I encourage all of you to check it out at

The main advantages of Oblivion and especially Morrowind are in the immersion and the feel of the world, whereas Skyrim does a better job of an "epic" feel and has significantly better combat. One thing I particularly prefer in Oblivion over Skyrim or Morrowind is the magic, which not only has high variety like Morrowind but is a lot more fun in combat than Skyrim's simplistic setup.
If you want to play the game for combat and grand quests, then Skyrim is simply better. I also advise you to avoid Morrowind (my personal favorite actually), due to its hilariously bad combat. Morrowind and Oblivion are more open-ended than Skyrim but if you prefer the feel of quests that deliberately direct you a certain way while being more-impressive, then Skyrim is generally better.
Basically Oblivion is a halfway between Skyrim and Morrowind, with Skyrim being the nice-looking one with good combat and an epic storyline while Morrowind is the one with more-impressive storytelling, open-ended world, a ton more dialogue, more skill types, mediocre graphics, etc.
I haven't played vanilla Oblivion since 2006.
There is so much content for me to do, I'm level 30 and just finished the Mages Guild story arch on my newes character.
Mods exist for all tastes. Learning about modding and what is available can lead to a lot of enjoyment of TES: IV.
Graphics? ENBs and streamliners exist to boost Oblivion's graphics and level of detail to, at the very least, equal an ENB for Skyrim.
Content? Try FCOM_Convergence and Armamentarium along with the official DLC.
If you can think of it, it probably exists. Even thousands of simple QoL mods exist for our pleasure.
Learn to mod it, and you can experience a whole new game.
TES: IV is my favorite of the series simply because I have spent years fine tuning it to become the closest thing to my version of the perfect RPG...if only it could be multiplayer!
